L.D. Bell High School Band
L.D. Bell is a Texas UIL 5A high school, grades 10-12 only, in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district located between the cities of Dallas and Ft. Worth. Cluster schools are Bedford, Central, and Hurst Junior Highs, which begin band in the seventh grade. The Marching Band rehearses and performs from August through mid-November. Concert Bands and Jazz Band perform from November through May. The band, drumline, guard, and jazz band appear at school and community functions throughout the year. The band is also part of the L.D. Bell International Baccalaureate Music program with each of the Band Directors having instructional certification in I.B. Music.
L.D. Bell Concert Bands have been named "Best In Class" at contests in several states. In April of 2003, 2004, and 2005 all three of the L.D. Bell Concert Bands received sweepstakes ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. The Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the 1999 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. The Blue Raider Band has consistent representation by individual musicians in Texas All-Region, Area, and All-State Bands and Orchestras. The L.D. Bell Drumline was named champion of the 2000 PASIC Standstill Drumline Competition and the Color Guard finished in 2nd place at the NTCA State Championships in 2001. In 2003, the Winter Guard competed in the Scholastic Open classification at WGI regionals in Dallas, and Tulsa, OK .
The L.D. Bell Blue Raider Marching Band numbers over 280. At the 2006 Bands of America Grand National Championship, L.D. Bell was awarded Outstanding Music Performance and placed 2nd. Bell was the 2006 BOA Arlington Regional and San Antonio Super Regional Champions and the UIL State Marching Contest Silver Medalist. At the 2005 Bands of America Grand National Championship, L.D. Bell placed 3rd. Bell is the 2004 UIL 5A State Marching Band Champion. The L.D. Bell Band is a 2004 recipient of the Sudler Shield. Also in 2004, the band was the Bands of America Arlington Regional Champion and Bands of America St. Louis Super-Regional Champion, sweeping all captions at each event. In 2003, the Blue Raider Band was the Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional Class Champion and received an Outstanding Performance caption award at each Bands of America contest attended. At the 2003 Bands of America Grand Nationals Championship, the band placed 5th. In 2002, Bell was the Bands of America Arlington Regional Champion, 2002 Bands of America San Antonio Class Champion, and the 2002 Texas UIL 5A State Silver Medalist. In 2001, the band placed 4th at the BOA Grand Nationals Championship, winning the award for Outstanding Music Performance. The Blue Raider Band also won the 2001 BOA Regionals in San Antonio and Arlington. The 2000 L.D. Bell Marching Band was the Texas State Champion in Class 5A and was champion of Bands of America's Regionals in both San Antonio and Houston. Since 2000, the Band has medaled at 14 BOA events and 4 of 4 times at the UIL State Marching. The L.D. Bell Marching Band has placed in the top 5 of each contest attended since 1999.
