The Brunets, a married couple, were perhaps the first legendary pairs figure skating team. In addition to winning two Olympic gold medals, they entered four World Championships (interestingly only in even years) and won all four times. The pushed the athletic boundaries of the young sport by performing new lifts, jumps, and spins. Andrée was among the first female pairs skaters to wear black to match her partner instead of the traditional white dress. In addition to their international accolades, they were French National Champions 1924-1935. The pair turned professional in 1936 and moved to the United States in 1940 where they later became coaches, guiding American Carol Heiss to the Olympic gold medal in 1960. Their son, Jean-Pierre, was the U.S. pairs champion with his partner Donna Pospisil in 1945 and 1946. The 18-year-old's life was tragically cut short when he was killed in an car accident in 1948.
