The brand new John Pears Recreation Ground pavilion is to be officially opened this Saturday 2 July at 11.15am. The pavilion replaces an early building on the same site, which was destroyed following a fire in 2003.
The site is named after John Pears, whose widow Molly Pears gifted the original building to the Council in the mid 80's. Subsequently, it has been the focus for many community events under the management of the Ashurst Wood Community Centre Association.
Ashurst Wood Parish Council will have a close involvement with the site and the new building, as they have taken on the day to day bookings for the site under a new contract with Mid Sussex District Council.
The new building has excellent views and is an ideal local facility for community meetings, children's parties and other events on the recreation ground.
During the opening event there will be an opportunity to meet the District Councils' Leisure Ranger who will be on hand to talk about Healthy Walks and volunteering for the ranger service.
The new building will be opened by Councillor Mrs Margaret Hersey, Vice Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council at 11.15 am, and the Parish Council have organised a village "Wild West" Fun day on the site from 12 to 5pm.
