Students may take a three unit course,
equivalent to AS level or continue a second year of study to gain the
full A Level award.
Year One
1. 2D and 3D skills, materials and
techniques
Exploring and investigating these fundamental skills that all
artists, craftspeople and designers use to develop and produce artworks.
The unit is internally assessed.
2. 3D Communication and meaning through
visual language
Developing use of visual language through 2D and 3D skills,
materials and techniques and demonstrating how use of visual language
can express communication and meaning. The work of historical and
contemporary arts, craftspeople and designers will be explored. The unit
is internally assessed.
3. Preparing and working to a brief
The use of 2D and 3D skills and visual language to communicate
meaning to meet an externally set brief in art, craft or design. |

Learning how to write and respond to a brief
working within external constraints imposed by the clients or the
students themselves. The unit is externally assessed.
Year Two
4. Professional practice and progression
Understanding professional studio practice through personal
exploration of anothers work and working practice and exploring the
diversity of career routes that art and design can offer. Students will
develop the qualities and skills required for successful career
progression. The unit is externally assessed.
5. Decorative imagery
Developing skills and knowledge through the exploration of
decorative imagery representational, symbolic and abstract imagery and
motifs drawn from a variety of historical and contemporary cultural
sources. Work produced for this unit can link with that for unit 6
providing further opportunity to develop work along a particular
pathway. |

6. Graphic design specialisms
Exploring graphic design and specialist disciplines including
illustration, typography, information graphics, package design,
advertising and design for digital media.
or 3D design/crafts
Learning
and developing the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to create,
develop and present high quality work using design/craft processes with
a special focus on ceramics. The unit is internally assessed.
