Logitech has added to its G
series gaming line with the next generation in gaming mice, the Logitech
G9.While this might seem like a typical
and scheduled move for Logitech, the G9 mouse is anything but a typical gaming
mouse. It truly is pushing the limits of what a gaming mouse should offer. The major question is though should we be
sacrificing top of the line technology for style?
The G9 is the most
customizable gaming mouse that the Logitech has ever created with its most
interesting component being the interchangeable grips. The G9 Laser Mouse includes interchangeable
grips that let you adjust the comfort and design. Users would utilize the wide
load grip for a fuller shape and wider thumb rest. The wide load grip features
a soft, satin finish for the ultimate in comfort. On the opposite side of the
spectrum is the precision grip which has a compact shape, optimal for smaller
hands and fine fingertip control. The precision grip is coated with DryGrip
technology to wick away sweat during long, intense gaming sessions.
The G9 also features the
same dpi engine as it gaming mice predecessors. The main difference is that it
can now go up to 3200 dpi.
One impressive modification
that Logitech has made to their gaming mice series is an improvement to the weight-tuning
system.While the Logitech G5 introduced
the legendary weight-tuning system to the gaming mice world, there were still
some quirky little issues with it. Logitech has improved on this by modifying
the placement of the cartridge in the mouse as well as changing the shape of
the weights. The G9 Laser Mouse delivers a complete weight tuning system,
including a weight tin containing eight mix-and-match metal weights of 4 g and
7 g. You can add up to 28 g of additional weight.
Unfortunately though
with all these advancements, Logitech lost points on style. Logitech has always
been cutting edge when it comes to looks and feel. The G9 feels like a step
backwards in feel and design. It felt somewhat clumsy in our hands and the
extra grips actually made the product feel less durable. We did not find the
interchangeable grips a necessary component as most of like our mouse a certain
way and do not need to constantly change the shape or feel.
With this being said,
the G9 isn’t necessarily a negative choice if you want the top of the line
weight-tuning system. But it also isn’t necessarily the best gaming mouse for
your buck. We suggest considering a previous Logitech model such the MX
Revolution or the G5 if you are looking for a top of the line gaming mouse.
