South Hospital - Phase I

EllisDon has been awarded the Construction Management Contract for the new South Hospital to be located in the proposed South Health Campus, Calgary, Alberta. Phase I will involve the development of an innovative and "leading edge" 400 bed (approximately) tertiary/quarternary acute care hospital and will provide a wide range of services including medical/surgical inpatient units, maternal newborn, general surgery, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, emergency and ambulatory care. The Phase I facility is targeted at 109,000 m2 (1,173,000 s.f.).

Ultimate development of the South Health Campus will include Phase II of the hospital expanding the acute care by an additional 350 beds at 95,000 m2 (1,023,000 s.f.) and provide other opportunities including medical research facilities, medical teaching, other health related services and parking structures.

The South Health Campus is located in the new subdivision of Seton at 196th Avenue S.E. and Deerfoot Trail South. The Master Plan for Seton Town Centre includes a Regional Shopping Centre, Business Parks, Recreation Centre and Schools.

Site Planning has commenced and Master Planning, Functional Programming and Conceptual Design/Block Schematics will continue through 2005.

Construction on site with site grading and services is scheduled for Fall, 2006 with foundations for the hospital buildings starting in February, 2007.
