  Delta blamed for tuna drop

With the last catch of tuna disembarked on the Los Cristianos quayside well before Christmas, the local fishermens’ guild declared their 2005 tuna season closed. The total catch was 300 tons.

That might sound a lot, but fishermen say it’s down by 10 to 15% on the previous season and part of the blame can be laid at the door of Tropical Storm Delta.
Under normal conditions the tuna fishing season lasts until the very end of December, but Delta kept the fishermen grounded several days. By the time they put to sea again the tuna, a migratory species, had moved on.
