Three Oregonians, Scott Jackson and his daughters, Stephanie and Lindsey, were the only Americans aboard. The women, 21 and 18, were students at the University of Oregon.
Their mother, Felice Jackson DuBois of Bend, Ore., said her daughters sent an e-mail shortly before takeoff, wishing her a happy New Year.
Adam Air Flight 574 went missing more than three weeks ago in a storm while flying from the main island of Java.
The hull of the aircraft has not yet been recovered, but the embassy statement says heavy debris was detected scattered over a wide area. It is currently being analyzed to verify if it is from the missing aircraft.
