I'm confused to say the least, this was rather sudden to me and I don't have a clue to what this means for my forums.

Is this "ikonForums" the so called Ikonboard 3.2?

Is this just ikonboard with a name change?

I tried to log onto ikonboard.com and the forums seem to be wiped clean.

I have been using IKonbaord since the 2.1.9 days, and I'm a litle worried as to the future of my ikonboard 3.1.3 beta9 forums.

What is going on, I think we deserve a detailed explanation

Yes you definitely deserve a detailed explanation:

QUOTE:
Welcome one and all to ikonForums. We would like to take this opportunity to outline some important history and information regarding the ikonForums Project.

Well the inevitable happened (again), development staff from Ikonboard got fed up with current situation and departed to work on a new project. We are proud to announce that after months of hard work, we are ready to open it up to the public. Whilst some may have thought of it as Ikonboard 3.2 we prefer to call it ikonForums 1.0.0. At the moment the forum software is in alpha testing, however we hope to have a public beta available in the not too distant future.

Although we are currently running an Alpha version of IkonForums, there is still plenty to be done behind the scenes. On going development will be carried out on a separate site and this forum will be updated from time to time with the latest builds. There will no doubt be many bugs that still need to be worked out and we therefore urge all of you to report them as often as soon possible (no matter how minor) so that we can quickly move towards a more stable version. All bug reports can be directed to our Bug Tracking Software.

A beta release of ikonForums will most likely be available in a couple weeks. Your existing ikonboard database will be importable but due to significant changes in the skinning engine and the conversion from an HTML based layout to a purely XHTML/CSS layout does mean that past skins will not be upgradeable. The good news is that the new skinning system has been designed with scalability in mind and will be fully compatible with future releases.

You may notice that many of the newly added features are subtle in nature there will be some functionality concerns. Please do not hesitate to address them in the suggestions forum, as it will allow us to better cater to the needs of the community.

Finally, while it may appear that we are preoccupied with ikonForums, we will be providing support for past versions of ikonboard for the indefinite future. The community forums currently have 2 dedicated forums through which users can get some support but our main focus will be on IkonForums. You will not receive any useful support at the official ikonboard support forums as all prominent members of the ikonboard team have migrated to ikonForums.

We are also please to announce our German counterparts have a new website for IkonForums http://www.ikonforums.de

We urge everyone to contact your fellow webmasters and inform them of this exciting new future for a message board script that has historically faced administrative and developmental neglect.

To be brief, IkonForums was developed under the iB 3.2 project. More importantly, we are officially splitting from the ikonboard ownership hierarchy that has plagued us for the last few years. The entire volunteer team has moved over and we will provide support for all previous version for the indefinite future.

Ikonboard was plagued under the management of Josh and his associate John Jarvis. We saw this as the only way and a necassary step to continue the board as a viable powerful alternative to any bulletin board.

We hoped it would but nothing had changed since Westlin went under and ownership was transferred and we now endevour to bring life into something which was been neglected for so long.
