Swells Associated With Tropical System Erin... Along With A Continued East To Southeast Wind Flow... Will Begin Affecting The Coastal Waters And Beaches Of Eastern North Carolina Through The Weekend... And Into Early Next Week.

Swell Waves Will Begin Approaching The Coast Late Tonight And Increase In Height Through The Weekend. For Saturday Night Through Monday... On Beaches From Cape Hatteras South To North Topsail Beach... .Waves Are Expected To Reach A Height Of 5 To 6 Feet On The Open Ocean... And 6 To 8 Feet On The Beaches. For Areas From Cape Hatteras North... Swell Waves Will Reach 5 To 6 Feet On The Open Ocean... With 6 To 8 Feet Possible On The Surf On Sunday And Monday.

For Beaches From Cape Hatteras South To North Topsail Beach... Swells Of This Size Will Increase The Threat Of Rip Currents So That By Saturday Afternoon... Dangerous Rip Currents Are Expected On The Beaches From Cape Hatteras South To Topsail Beach. There Will Be An Increased Threat Of Rip Currents On Saturday Along The Beaches From Cape Hatteras North To Currituck Beach Light.

In Addition... On The Outgoing Tide... Boating Conditions Will Become Dangerous In And Around The Inlets Along The North Carolina Coast. The Swell Waves Approaching The Inlet Will Be Raised Greatly By The Outgoing Tide And Will Become Much Higher Than What They Are On The Open Ocean. These Waves Can Possibly Capsize Or Swamp Even Some Of The Larger Pleasure And Commercial Craft.
