pushing things forward

Fashion is as fashion does…

t-shirtWhat does that really mean anyway?

I guess starting off with an absurd question is as good an intro as any. Hi, im Erin. I am going to be posting here periodically to keep all of you kids updated on what’s hot, what’s not and everything in between. I don’t pretend to be an authority, but I know what I like, and I hope I can inspire you to contribute constructively.

A little back story… I met Dave and Albert last year when a friend and I were putting together a local designer fashion show at a venue 88 used to regularly throw parties. We were having a hard time breaking ground with management and Dave stepped in to save the day. Not only did we throw a very successful show, I also made some amazing, inspiring friends in Dave, Albert & Co. So here I am finally trying to give back at least a fraction of they helped us achieve. They’re good dudes.

I’ve recently come back to the EDM scene via a record label very dear to my heart. Ed Banger Records is one of the most prolific groups I have ever come across. My last experience in the scene came to a screeching halt because I couldn’t imbibe the culture. I loved the music, but I couldn’t subscribe to the lifestyle. Ed Banger, though a powerhouse in it’s own right is only part of a very rich experience coming out of Paris right now. There is an honest to god collective, the group is comprised of musicians, artists, fashionistas, and kids that just want to be inspired. Hell, it’s inspired me.

If I could lay out everything I knew or wanted to know about this group, I’d be here for days, fingers worn down to bloody nubs. So we’re going to do this in pieces. Remember though, this IS a fashion blog, but I think all parts are essential to the whole. So I am going to begin with where I started.

Justice vs Simian. We are your Friends.

hate or love it, you have to admit that it’s a goddamn catchy tune. It’s the tune that put them on the map and plunged me kicking and screaming back into the scene I promised I’d never go back to. The number one reason why it took me awhile to accept my fate was the horrible fashion that clouded my mind everytime I heard a 404 beat. I thrifted my polos, my nylon Ralph Lauren Polo bags, gave my oversized waterproof Polo Sport Jacket to my dad to wash the cars. I BURNED MY JNCOS.

I never looked back. until two very cute french boys started blowing my mind.

Take a look see, check out their top 24, which is a mixture of their friends, influences, and counterparts. Make sure you have a few hours to kill, because you’ll get sucked in. These cats are no joke. All of them seem to have an amazing project in the works, twelve more on the way, they never stop and as it seems, they never run out of steam. And the best part, none of them wears wide legged pants or carries whistles.
Busy P (Pedro Winter) runs Ed Banger, it’s his label. He’s been Daft Punk’s manager for years and is married to the fashionista queen of style herself… Headbangirl (Nadege Winter). She does PR for Colette in Paris, which pretty much dictates trends for the world. The art director for Ed Banger, So-Me, has revolutionized the latest trend in art/illustration and put fresh air back in the tired sails of the EDM section at your local record shop. He has also broken into the fashion world, putting his work on t-shirts and hoodies for Revolver.

I’m very proud of my So-Me Revolver t-shirt. it makes rare appearances, lives in a dust proof room.

There’s SO much more to get into. This is just the tip of the iceberg. But for now, I’ll let you do some exploring and we’ll get deeper next time. Though this is a fashion blog, and there will be a lot of solely fashion info to come further down the road, it’s important that I document this explosion in Paris. Though fashion is just a spoke in its wheel, it’s part of something incredibly special, something that inspires every aspect of life. Something that stepped out into the spotlight as a result of the music.

Take a look at a few links here:

We Love Paris
Sold Out
Hopefully that should be enough info for now… all this linking has gotten me antsy to shop. More updates to follow.

xx holla.

Holla Erin! Great first entry! What’s the best way to get one’s hands on some of these duds? Do any shops, boutiques in DC carry them?

Thanks! Unfortunately Revolver is very limited release type of clothing company… but that’s what makes the hunt more fun, am I right? Sold Out and Colette are both my hubs for tracking down the desirable, but it all comes at a price.

A “macaroni and cheese and Schlitz for a month” price. But it’s worth it if you find something you really like… Sold Out only carries collectable clothing/toys/shoes. They usually sell no more than 10 of an item at a time, special edition sets from the likes of Revolver, BBC, Nike, KidRobot, Rebel Ape, OriginaFake, the list goes on and on. It’s worth checking out just for the Drool Factor.

I’ll keep my ear to ground, just in case I see some real BAPE, Kaws pop-up.
