Popcorn 2007

One of the council's suggested money-earning projects is the annual popcorn sale.  With a little imagination, many units have raised sizable amounts of money for unit accounts.

Highlights of the 2007 Annual Popcorn Sale

Increased commission returned to units on the top selling items!
40% commission returned to the unit on the top three high-end products!
Online ordering will be availabe to all units in the council to place their orders directly online with Popcorn Kernals!
New Item!  Send $25 worth of popcorn to our country's service men and women in the military

Why Sell Popcorn?
Units need a secure and stable source of income that a strong popcorn sale can provide.  Monies raised by units have been used to cover the cost of badges and advancement, special events, and pack and troop equipment.  Some units create an account for each Scout who sells and allows individuals to use those funds for camps or events.

Units that are financially sound can spend more time and resources on providing a fun and challenging year-round program.

The popcorn sale also benefits the council by helping us to serve volunteer leaders and members by providing better programs and camping facilities.

In honor of BSA’s 100th Anniversary, we want to create a memorable logo that captures the true spirit of Scouting... and, we are calling on Scouts all across the country to help us in the effort! The Patrol Challenge

The Ventura Council has been invited to participate in the Patrol Challenge with the Western Los Angeles County Council and Verdugo Councils. This event is a weekend of solving puzzles and mysteries, locating unusual and unique locations, obtaining all sorts of objects, participating in fun and unusual Patrol activities and team building in an adventurous competition with other Patrols. Read about it.

For further info visit the website at or contact Paul Oliver. The registration form can be found here.

Webkinz now available at the Scout Store

The plush toy comes with a secret code that allows the owner to enter Webkinz.com, an online world where kids can play with a virtual version of their toy pet.

When the owner registers the code online, the pet comes to life. Each owner gets one year's access and 2,000 in KinzCash to use in the virtual world to purchase food, clothing or decorate the pet's room.

Owners can earn more KinzCash by playing games and fulfilling various tasks. Games include math, word and shape puzzles in the vein of "Tetris" or sudoku. Most reward critical thinking in some fashion or another.
