Jyllands-Posten and Prophet’s cartoons
We write on behalf of the Ethnic Muslims or Ny Dansker whishing all the progress to academic life in Denmark.
For the last few years the D.I.T. has been mobilising 2nd generation to acquire higher education as a key element in strengthening and expediting the integration process. So often we quote from Derek Bok the famous rector of Harvard:
“If you think education is expensive try ignorance”
We are sure that more of ethnic Muslim students are between good hands in Danish universities getting the knowledge they like. So they would be able to give good service to the society and to Humanity. Presumably, we all share the same opinion that the core issue of civilization is to learn, to get and then to give.
Kindly, let’s use few minutes of your invaluable time. Our talk to day is about the big noise caused by Jyllands-Posten cartoons of Prophet Muhammad. Within our vision and strategy in the D.I.T. and in accordance to our concrete principles, we insist to use the proverb “We” instead of “Them & Us”. In all European Faculties of Art, students used to read about Muslims in Andalusia and their achievements in mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, geography, etc… in the past. In the present, we are desperate to prove the constructive contribution of Islam in modern life and in global sense. Let alone, to show the real signs of gratitude of Ethic Muslims towards the hospitality and care of the Danish system and society.
It’s the right moment for Muslims to give. We are sincerely keen to help in finding a solution to the current crisis by offering our money, time, effort and experience. Though our resources are incomparable with what the Danish system posses. We shall fight tooth and nail to attain the “Dialogue of Civilization” in any possible cost. We are determined to left behind and once for good the rotten concept “Clash of Civilizations”.
In this respect we would like to bring our idea or proposition to your kind attention. If democracy means freedom of expression, so it means or implies the diversity in opinions. So far cartoons had told one side of the story. No doubt, there are other sides about the Character of the Prophet of Islam. Instead of wasting time in demanding apologizes form JP, we go directly to business and change the whole course of events. Hopefully, in a very positive way and for the satisfaction of all parties.
a. Proposition: A project “Muhammad’s Seminar/Festival” , a colourful event to high light the Character of the Prophet of Islam (Person, Messenger, Social Reformer, Political leader, Military Commander, Tutor and Educator,…).
• The Muslim Community (pays 75% of total costs). In addition to Danish or European speakers, we invite Muslim University Professors to contribute in English, French, and German.
• Danish Universities (pay 20%).
• JP (pays 5%).
c. Duration: 1-3 days.
d. Venue: To be discussed.
e. Date: Between February and May 2006.
f. Programme: To be discussed. Lectures, Debates, Folders, Exhibitions, …
This year I have attended one day “Seminar on Freedom of Expression” conducted by Copenhagen University in Geo-centre. The total number of audience reached 400. Only 10 Muslims were their. In our judgment this is too little to address such crucial issue. However, its not too late to take care of a lot of work ought to be done. Let Media pursue its own agenda, but in such important intellectual area the initiatives and leadership of your academic institutions is very essential. And when you take action be sure that we, Muslims are on board.
Awaiting the favour of your kind response, thank you and kind regards.
