This drawing by Joseph Vincent Barber shows thatched cottages in the vicinity of Perry Bridge, the old packhorse bridge which crosses the River Tame at Perry Barr. The bridge is said to be the oldest surviving structure in Birmingham, having replaced a mediaeval wooden bridge around the year 1500.
