Wind Turbine And Solar Panel Plans For Ashton Hayes Primary School

A primary school near Chester is drawing up plans to have a wind turbine and a solar panel fitted onto its building.

A special exhibition is being staged at Ashton Hayes Primary School on Thursday May 25 between 4pm and 7pm to outline the scheme.

The school will be submitting a planning application this summer to install the  devices which could provide some of the energy and hot water requirements of the building, saving the school money and also reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The event is supported by the local Ashton Hayes ‘Going Carbon Neutral Project’, a village commitment to raise awareness of the environment and lower carbon dioxide emissions in the area.

Donated by Enterprise HBM and Windsave, the small wind turbine could be installed onto the roof of the school. The solar thermal panel donated by the County Council in conjunction with Solar Twin and the Carbon Neurtral Project is proposed to be wall mounted.

Headteacher Rob Ford said: “The school has been involved in the Carbon Neutral Project right from the start and our plans will allow the school to lead by example.

“It will certainly be a talking point for the children and any visitors to the school  who will be asking questions.

“The solar panel will provide hot water for school cleaning, providing a real ‘Green Clean’ and the wind turbine will provide a small part of our electricity needs.”

Also the school is part of the County Council’s ‘green’ energy contract in which electricity is provided by large renewable energy projects.
Added local Gowy County Councillor John Burke: “A great deal of planning has taken place and the exhibition will give everyone the opportunity to find out more.

“Any concerns can be raised and questions answered as well as meet people involved in the wind turbine and solar thermal panel industry.”
