One of the cool new tools we have here on the redesigned site is the ability to show off what people have submitted to the databases. Just in the past few days, while working on cleaning up the conversion, we've also added several new entries, including:

New Items
Paradox-touched Olthoi Axe, Paradox-touched Olthoi Spear, Paradox-touched Olthoi Sword

New Monsters
Paradox-touched Olthoi Warrior Nymph, Dark Bobo, Imp, Mudmouth, Paradox-touched Olthoi Warrior

Thanks to those that submitted these items, either through the patch trees, or directly to us. Read more to see what else we've added. As always, if you find something we don't have in the database, or a quest writeup we're missing, please submit it!

Frelorn, of Turbine's Asheron's Call Community Relations, posted an important notice about one of the quests in the game:

After going into the dungeon and seeing an overwhelming number of corpses, this quest is going to be closed down for 24 hours to allow players to recover any bodies they may have lost in this dungeon. After the 24 hours is up, we will clean up all remaining corpses and turn the quest back on again.

In the meantime, we are asking for player feedback on this dungeon. What caused the most deaths, did something hit harder than expected, was there just too much to handle? We just want to know why everyone has been having trouble with in this quest.

To give feedback on this dungeon, head over to the official forums, here.

Dark Materials, the September Event for Asheron's Call, has gone live, and with it comes the rollout Fiction:

In a mist-shrouded valley between the Obsidian Plains and the Inner Sea of Dereth sat the ruins of an ancient graveyard. Shambling undead and corruption-tainted rats lurked in the cold recesses of the crypts. Wisps and ghosts glowing with malevolent energy hovered in the open spaces between gravestones. Into this nightmarish patch of land came an even stranger creature, scurrying nervously between hiding places to mask its presence from the roving groups of undead.

Looks like Aliester and Ardry are going to be having some 'fun'!

Frelorn, of Turbine's Asheron's Call Community Relations, posted the teaser fiction for September's Event, Dark Materials:

Ardry crouched in the wide stone hallway, trying to ignore the chill in his bones. He'd found this portal, strangely unguarded and unwarded, in the middle of the Singularity Caul after the Council of Sages had asked him to investigate rumors of Elemental activity in the area...

Frelorn, of Turbine's Asheron's Call Community Relations, posted the event notes for September's Event, Dark Materials. It looks like changes are in store related to the Harbinger, including:

The two Harbinger Portals into Old Yanshi will now ask if you wish to return to your Harbinger fight if you have already entered the Harbinger's Chamber. If you choose not to, you are portaled to the Tunnels.

Read on for the complete details, as well as information on some requested feedback regarding quests in-game.

Frelorn posted this warning for us today:

We will be doing some maintenance to the login servers on Thursday September 13th from 5am EDT - 6am EDT. During this time connecting to the game may be sporadic, but should not be consistently down.

Good thing I'm still in bed at those hours!

Frelorn keeps it brief this week with a preview of the September Event (but don't tell Philip Pullman), a reminder about housing payment, and a look at the new AC Forums coming in a few weeks:

Asheron's Call Update 9/12/07
We are going to be keeping this edition short and sweet because, we have a lot of work to do still and there is not much extra time floating around right now.

The September event Dark Materials is scheduled to go live on Tuesday, September 18th. This of course means that all worlds will be down on that day from 8am EDT - 3pm EDT. If for some reason that date changes, we will let everyone know. We will be getting the Teaser screenshots out to the fansites as soon as possible, probably on Friday, along with the Release Notes and Fiction.

Frelorn's posted an update for this week, and includes a bit of an update regarding the 'excitement' we had this weekend, commentary on the players' reactions, as well as some feedback from PAX.

All the evidence we have at this point says that we had what is classified as Network issues. We still have one of our Operations managers out on site, doing some more work to the servers and the network hardware located out there. As a result of this past weekend, we are going to be returning to our regularly scheduled weekly maintenance window. We want to be very clear that we are going to do everything within our power to make sure that something like this does not happen again.
