HISTORY

The railway came through Dundurn in 1889. In 1902, Dundurn started as a village. This was mainly due to the efforts of E.J. Meilicke, a senator from Minnesota, who convinced a number of his friends to come and settle here. Mr. Meilicke built four houses in Dundurn in the beginning, all of which are standing yet today.
It was in that year that a few settlers sowed wheat and oats on some spring breaking. When the crop was harvested, the yield was fifteen to twenty bushels to the acre on the wheat and about forty bushels to the acre on the oats. The news of these terrific yields caused a rush of settlers into the region. Dundurn was incorporated as a village on July 7th, 1905. It was later incorporated as a town on November 1st, 1980. The Rural Municipality of Dundurn #314 was incorporated on December 13, 1909
