Vancouver - The BC Lions announced today that defensive lineman Brandon Ala and defensive backs Matt Griebel and Bo Smith have been added to the team's roster. All three will hit the field during Lions Rookie Camp slated for Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June 2nd in Abbotsford.
Ala played four seasons for the Huskies (2003-06) and appeared in 34 career games. He registered 55 total tackles and three sacks over the course of his UW career.
Griebel had an incredible season to finish his four-year, 44-game career at New Mexico State University in 2005. He recorded 149 tackles for the season, bringing his career total to 336 making him the all-time leading tackler among defensive backs at New Mexico State and moving him into the top 10 all-time tacklers in school history. His senior season was capped by a prolific 23 tackle game vs. Boise State in November that year.
Smith came to Weber State in the fall of 2006 as a transfer from the University of Kentucky where he spent three seasons. In his one season with the Wildcats, Smith earned First-Team All-Big Sky Conference honours. He started all 11 games last year, recording 44 total tackles and had two pass interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four pass break-ups. In January 2007, he was invited to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game in San Antonio and this past February, Smith received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
