TGS '07: Sony announces Dual Shock 3, delays Home

Kaz Hirai's keynote address reveals rumble-enhanced controller due in 2007 in Japan, 2008 in NA and UK; PS3's avatar-based network delayed until next spring.

TOKYO--Directly after the Tokyo Game Show's opening ceremony takes place, Sony's president and group CEO, Kaz Hirai, will be taking to the stage to deliver his keynote address on "A Look at Expanding Our Business Strategy Toward New Growth: The Expanding PlayStation World."

Hirai's presentation is taking place inside Makahuri Messe International Conference Hall, and the 1,000 seats allocated for members of the press, executives, and the general public are filled to capacity.

It has been rumored that the Sony executive will be taking the opportunity during his keynote address to make some announcements, including that of a Dual Shock 3 controller for the PlayStation 3.

[6:31] The venue is stuffed full to capacity, with a camera crews crammed into the back of the hall.

[6:32] The lights have gone down. It begins!

[6:33] A trailer is playing from the CESA to introduce TGS '07.

[6:33] Kaz Hirai is being announced. He takes to stage to rapturous applause.

[6:34] He welcomes everyone to the TGS and says that this is his first opportunity since taking up his new post to make a speech in front of so many people.

[6:35] He says that PlayStation, since 1994, has surpassed Sony's original business model.

[6:36] And has become a world leader.

[6:36] He says he will be talking about some of the company's ideas and how Sony will be contributing to the industry as a whole.

[6:36] Since he has taken over his position last September, he has been saying that the company needs to get back to basics and make more interesting games.

[6:37] The PS2 was launched in 2000, and this is the eighth year. Since 2000, the price has decreased drastically, he says.

[6:38] To date, 120 million PS2 units have been sold worldwide.

[6:38] The PS2 has enjoyed a far longer life than the PSOne. This year, more than 300 titles are scheduled to be released for the PS3.

[6:38] He displays a graph showing how the PS2 has enjoyed a long and healthy life, with all lines going upward to mark its record-breaking sales.

[6:39] "Now, with the PlayStation Portable, people can bring the functionalities of the PlayStation brand outside of the home," says Hirai.

[6:40] He boasts that Midnight Club II, Monster Hunter 2, and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories have all become platinum titles on the PSP.

[6:40] "We will soon reach 30 million units sold for the PSP," promises the executive.

[6:40] Hirai shows off a picture of all the six new colors of the new slim PlayStation Portable, which is to be launched in Japan today.

[6:41] He goes on to talk about various bundles that have been launched for the PSP.

[6:43] Sony localizes all its packages and bundles for each market. Hirai talks about the PSP camera for Europe and Japan, as well as the 1 SEG Tuner for the new PSP.

[6:45] Hirai references the company's presentation at Leipzig and says that users are asking for such functionalities as mail, TV, pictures, and video.

[6:45] "Sony needs to further expand the multimedia capabilities of the PSP, as these are popular features," he says.

[6:46] There will now be a demonstration of the PSP's Remote Play from the PS3. A high-definition TV--Sony-made, naturally--is wheeled out on stage.

[6:47] Another Sony official takes to the stage to do the demonstration. He is talking up the PSP and the way it connects remotely to the PS3, so gamers can access PS3 functionalities on their PSPs.

[6:49] The exec says that in Japan, wireless is free and easily accessible from many free Wi-Fi points in shops and hotels. So this is a "really cool feature."

[6:50] Kaz Hirai has retaken the stage and is now showing off the way that the PSP can be used as an additional monitor, screen, or a controller for the PS3.

[6:51] There is also a voice-recognition function, and multiplayer games can be accessed by multiple users on multiple PSPs, with others joining as spectators.

[6:52] Hirai continues to talk about the possibilities of Remote Play in the future.

[6:52] Users will be able to play their games on the PS3s, and when they have to leave for work, continue playing them during their commutes on their PSPs.

[6:53] "PSP will make use of these extended functions to expand the world of PlayStation and will be a very important part of the platform's growth," says Hirai.

[6:54] He then apologizes for not being able to launch the PS3 at the same time worldwide in late 2006.

[6:54] Hirai hopes that the PS3 will become "the core home entertainment system."

[6:55] Some 40 PS3 titles will be at the Sony Computer Entertainment booth on the TGS floor, promises Hirai.

[6:55] Which titles, you ask? Hirai introduces them in the form of a video montage.

[6:56] Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Devil May Cry 4 are shown briefly.

[6:57] They are followed by Sega Rally Revo, Call of Duty 4, Spider-Man 3, and Conan.

[6:57] Heavenly Sword, of course, is shown as well. Some of the titles are for Japan only and look quite quirky.

[6:58] MGS4 and Afrika finish off the video montage. Kaz asks the audience how they liked the games...

[6:59] ...after some applause, the lights come back up. Hirai then says Sony Computer Entertainment will be doing new things to work better with partners.

[6:59] "Further building close relationships with its partners and improving the development environment is a priority for Sony," he says.

[7:00] Sony will also be accelerating the development of first-party titles, promises Hirai, with an emphasis on PS3 titles.

[7:03] He is now talking about the acquisition of developers in Europe, such as Evolution Studios.

[7:03] Here comes another video montage: Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice and MotorStorm are the main games shown.

[7:04] Now down to brass tacks: Hirai says that Sony will be reducing PS3 manufacturing costs by making the console's semiconductors smaller and reducing the number of components in the system.

[7:04] Dual Shock 3 is now official. (For more on the Dual Shock 3, check out GameSpot's in-depth, hands-on profile of the peripheral.)

[7:05] "This came from listening to users who said that they wanted a vibration function on the PS3," says Hirai.

[7:06] Sony introduced the Sixaxis, but Hirai says the company realized users wanted Dual Shock. At first, they "thought it would be too difficult, but they have managed to overcome this difficulty." It is unclear if he means technology or Sony's legal battle with Immersion.

[7:07] The Dual Shock 3 looks exactly like the Sixaxis and will launch in Japan in November, as well as North America and Europe in spring 2008. No exact date or pricing are mentioned, nor does he say whether it has to be bought separately or will be bundled with future PS3s.

[7:07] Games that will use the Dual Shock 3's rumble function include DMC 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

[7:08] As soon as the vibration function was decided upon, Sony announced it to its partners, although there was little time to add it to games before TGS. That said, 11 games so far have incorporated the function. (An updated list subsequently released by Sony shows over 60 titles will have Dual Shock 3 support.)

[7:09] As for existing titles, they can be updated via the PlayStation Network so they can use the vibration function, says Hirai.

[7:10] Hirai says this update is a result of how the game industry is moving rapidly toward a networked world.

[7:10] Now, he has an exciting announcement to make: Grand Turismo 5: Prologue will be available on December 13 in Japan.

[7:11] The subject quickly moves to the eagerly awaited virtual world and social network, PlayStation Home.

[7:11] Home has now been delayed. It was due to be released at the end of the year but will be pushed back to spring 2008

[7:12] "Please be patient," says Hirai.

[7:13] Hirai mentions "Everybody's Fashion Function," a way to dress Home avatars, but it's not sure exactly what he means. He promises more details will be given at the company's booth on the TGS show floor.

[7:14] On to the PlayStation Store. Currently, the store offers 30 PS3 games, 300 add-on items, 100 game archives, and 90 demo movies.

[7:15] People have been asking for more convenience and can now access the PlayStation Store from PCs and transfer content to PSPs as of today.

[7:15] Now Hirai talks the future possibilities for the PS3 and its powerful cell processor.

[7:15] He compares the PS3 to a supercomputer, going into much technical detail.

[7:16] He thinks that networked PS3s will propel Sony's effort to move into real-time entertainment.

[7:17] Oh, and "Blu-Ray discs provide the best video quality," he adds.

[7:17] Hirai then says he is happy that TGS is starting today and hopes to see the members of the audience at Sony's booth. Is that it?

[7:17] Apparently not. "Sony wants to be a much more active member of the gaming industry," says Hirai.

[7:18] "The game industry is quite unique compared to other industries," he says. "What Sony needs to do is get back to basics."

[7:18] "Gamers should be able to enjoy games with the rest of the world, and Sony would like to help them to do that."

[7:18] He thanks the audience for coming--to robust applause.

Going back to Victor's comment, I work at a UPS Store and I have been sending back 360's for repair EVERY day. I usually get 5 or so a day and that's just at my store! There are several in town so I could only imaging how many of these broken xbox 360's there are in the UPS system. I personally like PS3 better and enjoy seeing these POS xbox's going in for repair... can't wait for MGS4 to come out! The anticipation is eating me alive as Resistance and Warhawk tie me over until the November.

I wasn't going to comment but someone HAD to bring up the "360 came out first so its the oldest technology so HAS to be inferior to the PS3" argument.

Hello, wake up. The PS3 specs had already been decided as far back as the 360 specs had. Both consoles, technically, are as old as each other. The PS3 came out later not because it was more up-to-date, because they couldn't get the manufacturing right. Sure the reason for that is they were going for a "different" technology and yes that means it does some things differently or better than the 360, but it doesn't automatically make the games BETTER. If what the 360 is pulling now is all it can do, I can live with that. The games are fun, entertaining and here NOW. I have been playing it for well over a year whereas even if I COULD afford a PS3 I would be missing out on some of my favourite games.

PGR3, Kameo, BioShock, Burnout Revenge, the latter being FAR more fun online on 360 than the old Xbox or PS2 versions. Lets not forget Crackdown too, I spent HOURS playing that in co-op mode chatting away over Xbox Live. It has been a great way to enjoy a game while also getting to know friends better. Oblivion, yes its on PS3 but I was playing it before it came out on PS3 and time HAS to be factored into this because without it, what else would I have been doing?

Then theres Xbox Live. The fact that its seamless, full integrated into ALL games has allowed me to meet many new friends and chat with them seamlessly over whatever game I might be playing. No other console does that. Lets also not forget Xbox Live Arcade games. I own about 20 of those which ALSO are not available on PS3. The majority of what I play is not on PS3 and I see nothing on PS3 that peaks my interest, other than the multiplatform games I already own on 360.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging off the PS3 here, its a good console (in theory). Its just anyone claiming that it being more powerful than 360 makes it more fun are just dillussional. I have had far more fun on 360 games than I could possibly have on PS3 because it doesn't have the games I love.

Sigil-otaku or whatever your name is, by your comments you really show who the fanboy really is. Yes, the 360 has a bigger library than the PS3 but that still doesnt make it a console thats worth it...Right now the 360 has only 3 strong games; halo 3, bioshock & GOW (All 3 games are on PC or they will be, so they arent real exclusives), the rest are multiplatform. Another important thing is the 360's unreliability. If I pay $399 for a videogame console I expect that thing to work the way it should, I dont want a screen freezing all the time or those annoying red lights that are pissing off alot of people, I want to play a game peacefully without worrying that the next time I turn it on it will die on me. I've had 2 different 360's already in less than 6 months and my PS3 still works like new. As far as pricing the PS3 is at a reasonable price right now ($499 - 60GB).

I own a PS3 and Xbox 360. They both have their strong points and that is why I have both of them. Anybody who says Halo 3 is a bad game isjust delirious and stupid. Halo 3 is a very enjoyable game that also has a great enjoyable multiplayer that brings gamers together not just on the internet but in your friends house. Gaming is about having fun and Halo 3 gives gamers a way to have fun with their friends and the PS3 also has many games on the way that will do the same. In the end the PS3 will probably be on top, but that is how sony planned it. They put the latest cutting edge technology into the PS3 so it would last for a long time and right now that is exactly what it is going to do.

@ Victor_N: No need to spew your fanboy bias around here because it means nothing, it's just ranting. Halo is over rated but not in a bad way, people are just excited and all good games get over rated when they're popular, Killzone 2 is massively hyped despite the flop of the first killzone title. The PS3 has overcome nothing, it's still waiting for the majority of it's better titles and doesn't have enough great games now, the price is still an obstacle and in terms of sales it's not doing any better than before so what obstacles is it overcoming? My 360 also died and it's being repaired but so what? I'd rather have a 360 than a PS3 still because on the PS3 there isn't enough games I want. Let me guess by the end of the year there'll be 20 million sold PS3's and still only 10 million Wii and 360 by your estimations.

Halo is definately overrated and xbox is not doing so good nowadays...I just sent over my 360 to the repair center for the famous "three red lights of death" and the guys in the UPS store said they were sending an average of two 360's per week. As far as the PS3, it is showing that it will overcome all obstacles and finally succed over the 360 and the wii. The Wii is an excellent console for the family but it gets boring after a while. I can say it because I own all Next-Gen consoles

antonior...you're right!!! waiting is so much fun!!! I can't wait to wait!!! In the last generation, the xbox came out later and had better technology and graphics. But the ps2 came out on top in sales....sounds like the reverse is happening this generation. And by the way, I own BOTH systems. But I find my 360 to be better in alot of ways. I'm just sick of the idea of paying $600 bucks for a system, then waiting and waiting. Too bad thats what you are doing right now.

OK... since this ended being a fight between xbox and ps fans, here is what I have to say:

I'm a big PS fan, I owned the original PS, the PS2 and now i have a PS3 and until this day sony has always delivered stuff that i really liked. I don't mind waiting another year to see the good games, actually i always thought it was a very cheap tactic from microsoft to put the xbox 360 in sale a year before sony and nintendo did it. And it was really stupid because now the xbox 360 is the oldest console out there and with technology it means its the worst one and nobody can deny that. Even the Wii with its low technology is even funnier to play than the xbox. And there is no point in arguing which console is the best one.

And yes... of course there r a lot more games out there for the xbox 360 than for the PS3. Only the idiots that own an xbox 360 bring that fact to the discussion. Let me explain this to u once and for all: the xbox 360 has been out there for a lot of time, it has to have a lot more games!!!!!

And talking about that... even if there was going to be only one game available for the PS3 i would own a PS3 if that game was MGS4... there is no xbox or wii game that comes close to it.

And for all of u xbox fans... halo is a average shooter and there are tons of those out there... so i really dont know what do u see in that game... ive played it in some friends xbox and any james bond game its better, seriously.

It's funny how huge PS fan react to this news, which mostly are what SHOULD'VE HAD been when PS3 was first released. The fact is, xbox gamers are too busy playing Xbox while PS3 fans are looking for promising news on the internet and dream about it while drooling over xbox games that are being released much more constantly.

And no I don't own any consoles. I am a PC gamer.

I got my ps3 from launch day 1...and here are some things i've been saying all the damn time:
1. Wow I can't wait!!! Oh wait, yes I can...
2. Awww...it's going to be sweet...when it finally arrives...
3. Gears of War? You wait three more years, then talk my friend!!!
4. Halo 3?? Screw that, lets watch my blu ray copy of glitter again!!!

Thats why I play my 360 more. With my ps3 I wait and tell everyone how sweet things will be...(while my life wastes away). With my xbox 360...i'm too busy to tell anybody anything. I just play some sweet ass games.

Maybe not "pointless" but it's still very much a gimmick in my eyes.

@Mrfrieze i totally agree of course xbox is going to have better statistics
when it has been out for longer and more games because developers have had more time to work with it, this is all logical and expected.

However i am not happy with delays, Stranglehold was going to be a game i play while waiting for others. it to is being delayed.
I am just a little disappointed as others im sure are. ps i would never own an xbox, EVER!, if i was given it as a gift
i couldn't sell it quicker for virtually any price and then put that into a PS3 straight up, so i dont mind waiting!

JEEBUS_BOGONDO_ trust me I do my fair share, I own both systems but the xbox is junk and any game to come out on both gets bought on the ps3. On top of that all the games you mentioned are out on pc so where are the xbox true exclusives? And keep in mind it has a year lead over the ps3 so what do you expect, I remember holding off on the 360 for a very long time for two reasons Microsoft is crap and it HAD NO GAMES anyone remember that? Get over your self the games are coming.

I bought a PS3 pretty much right when it came out. Since then I bought Resistance, Flow, downloaded a demo of Heavenly Sword and Folklore, and that's all. The first of the bad news I hear is that Grand Theft Auto IV is delayed. Okay, fine, I reserved it at Gamestop for no reason. Now this. They choose to release a controller that vibrates over something that will undoubtedly be HUGE. I'm not saying the new Dual Shock is pointless, some people will like it and I respect that. But let's get our priorities straight, Sony. PS3 has very little to offer in itself (right now), so why postpone something that will be potentially awesome for a "neat" little accessory? I would never buy a 360 over a PS3 and it's obvious PS3 is going to kick 360's ass in every category and is going to outlive Xbox big time, but I envy that my friends who own 360's have something to do with their console other than wait until next year for it to show us what it can do. Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 5, Assassins Creed, Grand Theft Auto IV, Home, we've got a lot to look forward to while holding a controller that (yipee) vibrates.

look , so the PS3 had a couple of turn backs , but that doesn't mean that its over . BABY , the game has just begun !!! Hirai is just patching up the wounds from b4 .... so look , facts are the ps3 lost its original fans bcoz of the crapy games , and the lost of priviligies .... But wake up people . a hero isn't born ... its made !!! ALL the turn backs that SONY is experiencing right now are only preparing the PS3 to be the best !!! XBOX360 brakes alot !!! for the love of god , i had the PS2 from like 5 years ,,, neveronce did it bother me !! GAmes on the PS3 are promising !!! the companies will look back , sales will go up , games will return .. the PS3 is a christmas future !!!

non the less , time is a problem ... so why not a wii at the time being to get you on track with the new and improved controller , ... ganes are nice and all .... that should distract us games untill the PS3 is MATURE !!!

hey mrfrieze, there is alot more then halo for the xbox 360. waaay more fantastic games then that. youve got Gears of War , The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Halo 3, Forza Motorsport 2, BioShock, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, Call of Duty 3, Dead or Alive 4, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, Dead Rising, Saints Row, Test Drive Unlimited, Crackdown, mass effect, GTA 4 etc. some have now been ported to the ps3 now, and some havent come out yet, but you get my point. so umm, yeah, maybe you should do some research yourself little buddy. And as far as playstation 3 exclusives, they are few and far between. Which is unfortunate because I think the playstation 3 is a powerhouse as far as hardware is concerned and home looks like it will be very cool.

There are more than on or two games, lol. You should do some more research, and it's funny the only thing the 360 has is halo, over rated at that. So lair did not do that well, HS got a good reveiw. I dont want to hear about ya but it's short, cause halo is sort too, when a good player can get past it in 6 or 7 hours. But what can you expect when playing it off a dvd.---Vash your right it's over rated I turn it off in most games. But some games need it. Sony never planned to cut it. they knew all along they would bring it back when the law suite was over.

The most important thing about a console is its games and sony just are not making quality new games lets be honest there all crap so far some do look promising but there not coming out for at least another 6 month. this is why people are moving to MS and there not going to come back over one or two games you can only get on the playstation.

Meh, Rumble is overrated. Sure, 'll get a Dual Shock as my second controller, but i wouldn't miss it if I didn't have one. There are many times I'm playing a game and don't notice if rumble is on or off. It's not really as important as everyone makes it out to be.

@xunhallowed

You see, I agree with mostly everything keijigoto said and unless it is on some other page I haven't seem the guy using sales as an "argument weapon" anywhere in his recent post. He's just exposing the facts.

My opinion is that sony screwed up and is trying to make up for its mistakes, but at a really slow pace. I'm still looking forward MGS4 and Fabula Nova Crystallis, but every passing day I just thank God I bought a 360 instead of a PS3. Actually, the PS3 was never an option.

And again, what kejigoto says about this "revolutionary" PS3-PSP connection is nothing but truth and in fact was the first thing I remembered when I read about it. Nintendo did it already. And despite it worked pretty well in CC, IMO, it sucked in every other game. It was - wow, this word is getting more and more useful by the day - gimmicky. Every now and then someone says that a company never stayed on top in the gaming industry for over 2 generations. Right now, I'm this someone saying so.

@DredWulf: I admit that Microsoft does take too long to repair the 360's but when they are repairing them for free you can't call it terrible, I'd be mad and call it the worst f***ing service ever if I had to pay but since it's free I don't feel there's much I can say. What other company lets you deliver, repair and send back your stuff for free while extending the warranty to protect it's customers? The PS3 is a good console but never forget that those who make it will ultimately have some hand in the design of the console, if I don't like them then the console is liked a little less by me too.

The Dual shock was not a back lash, people were unhappy with the loss of rumble all along, the failure of the six axis was just fuel to the fire. Ofcourse he just talked about the PS2, they had no good new announcements and they are spin masters.

People care usually cause they dislike the other service (e.g. I'm not interested in PS3 games at the moment) yet they'll be insulted by some fanboy and then it's just an insult war.

I still have faith in PS3 I am a gamer I support games...not console corporate hacks who don't give a crap about the consumer..Sony has never cared about thier customers, ie the bait and switch tactics and MS has poor tech support and customer service...who loses..we all do. The Dual Shock 3 is just backlash of the sixaxis being considered a failure also if you noticed all Kaz did was talk about the Glory days of PS2 and nothing about how well or poorly the PS3 is doing..that's not good news at all..in the end however I hope PS3 can really hang in there, I also wish for the Success of the 360 to just prove a point that multiple consoles on a unified front as an entertainment juggernaut is superior to elitist fanboyism...why care?

Whats wrong with all the noobs that are posting here? The only reason the dualshock is only just making it into the ps3 is because Immersion (the company that makes dualshock ) had a tantrum and started legal battles with everyone. Microsoft just got theres early, and unfortunately for sony at a more convenient time.

Oh for crying out loud, not another delay. You know, I bought my PS3 after M$ treated me badly when my second 360 went down (taking my TV with it. Thanx Bill), and I was initially really happy. I could, and still can see the potential in this awesome piece of kit. But I've had it for four months now and I currently own a grand total of two, count 'em, two games. Thing is Sony, I'm absolutely dying to spend some of my hard earned spondoolicks with you, but you have to actually put some games on the shelves, it's not enough to say how good they're GOING to be. You have to release them at some point too.
However, I'd still rather set light to my own facial hair, (which is bushy and virile by the way) than continue lining M$ fat, consumer hating, pockets.

the ps3 is far from out. give it a year and ps3 games will graphicly be the most superior this gen. well looking at killzone 2 it already happening people. the ps3 has loads going for it and once sony realises that all it takes is some good games ( oh wait thats covered killzone 2, MGS4, warhawk, LBP, F1 games, GT5, heavenly sword oh I could go on!) and they sell a 40gb system for $300 then the ps3 will quite easily dominate, you would be suprised how much the price difference is all that MS's console has going for it. c'mon people 33% of them fail, and they cost 180 pounds and they stillmake money on the systems. what does that tell you? 1. the people who bought one at launch were ripped off and 2. it seems very cheap to produce and to me it seems they cut corners with all these consoles failing. I like my 360 but all the news I get about it is worrying. it may have cheaper and more games for noe, but that can quickly change. anyway the wii i still winning by miles isnt it? but everyone seems toi forget that as if it dosent exist. I have one and its pretty good.

also jimjam146 not everyone here is american. Im english and there are probably loads of others that are not american.

Seriously this year MS is destroying Sony with Halo 3 and Mass Effect.
Its too late to go back to basics. The damage has been done.

I love how all these Sony fans take the news of finally getting a controller with rumble features (next year some time) and the delay of Sony's glorified Mii system has been delayed, as good and much needed news. Hope you all finally enjoy the last gen technology Nintendo and Microsoft have been loving since they pulled their consoles from the box and first hooked them up. Now you get the awesome enjoyment of updating all your existing games so they can support rumble with this new controller. Also about the new controller there's not even a price given, something tells me its gonna be like $50 since they aren't exactly talking about it. I remember when the first rumble dual shock controller was released and it was $10 more than the already existing controller, so don't be surprised if you are spending close to what you would pay for a game on a damn controller that rumbles.

Oh yea, I laughed too about the whole PSP thing, which is extremely similar to what Nintendo was doing with the Gameboy Advances on the Cube. Anyone remember Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? When you did multiplayer you used your Gameboy Advance as a controller (which worked really well) and all your menus and things like that would be displayed on the screen. The Gameboy Advance was used to unlock certain content in certain games and some games would allow you to download games onto the Gameboy Advance so you could play them on the go (Animal Crossing did this alot). Only difference here is now you can use the PSP's shotty controls on MotorStorm and Heavenly Sword (the only 2 PS3 games worth playing it seems). Another reason I find this funny is because Sony bashed on Nintendo alot because of what they were doing with the Gameboy Advance and the Cube, looks like they are one again "borrowing" ideas from Nintendo.

I guess when you are a die hard Sony fan you'll take whatever news you can get, maybe its the lack of a decent game that's made you all delusional enough to think this is good news, but really its nothing but a filler, Sony just giving you the same crap they've been shoveling since the release of the PS3 of how things are changing. Maybe in 2008 Sony won't be riding such a distant third place to the 360 or Wii, but they can come in a close third (at best). Sony has way too much ground to make up and even though they are getting some "good" games come 2008, Nintendo and Microsoft are getting just as many, and with the amount of ground Sony has to make up seems they'll spend majority of 2008 just trying to catch up to the 360 while the Wii continues to outsell them by millions (remember it just past the 360 in over all console sales). Good luck Sony! You'll certainly need it.
