HBO's 'Voyeur' Teases, Pleases
June 28, 2007
By Barbara Lippert

HBO finds an evocative way to suggest that there's always something worth watching.
NEW YORK OK, folks: Get ready for the tease of the tease. There are several layers of voyeurism in this "branded experience," so let's start with the teaser spot here, from BBDO in New York, which will run on HBO and in cinemas. It's a beautiful view of morning dawning on a city, as we watch the light hit the sides of various buildings and people begin to stir behind their windows. A mini-urban drama set to enchanting piano music, it was created to drive the tease-susceptible (teaseceptible?) among us to hbovoyeur.com, a high-concept "branded experience" involving interconnected stories that can be seen on many platforms, starting with the Internet, but also on HBO Mobile, and for tonight, through a life-size projection on the side of a building (on New York's Lower East Side). But if you're not near Ludlow Street, imagine you're Jimmy Stewart, with your binoculars in Rear Window, because that's the point of view set up on the hbovoyeur.com home page. After the blinds open to reveal city lights and buildings, we can adjust the point of view and go inside eight different apartments to get the lowdown: Murder? Violence? Romance? Marriage? Cheating? All seem possible. The site gets pretty addictive; no doubt for the post-Sopranos HBO, it's an evocative way to suggest that there's always something worth watching.
