Rabri Devi
Monday, 07 February , 2005, 12:36
Rabri Devi, the Chief Minister of Bihar and wife of Rashtriya Janata Dal president and Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, is seeking re-election from Raghopur Assembly constituency in Vaishali district.

She is seeking a second term from the seat, which she won in the by-poll held in 2000 after Lalu Prasad vacated it following his election to the Rajya Sabha.

Raghopur will vote in the third and final phase in Bihar on February 23.

It is one of the six Assembly seats falling under the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency held by Lalu's archrival and LJP president Ramvilas Paswan.

Rabri assumed office as the 30th Chief Minister of Bihar, on 11th March, 2000. This is her 3rd term as Chief Minister of the state. She became the first woman Chief Minister of Bihar on 25th July,1997.

As Chief Minister of Bihar, her first term was from July 25, 1997 to February 12, 1999 and the second term was from March 9, 1999 to March 9, 2000. 12th After being accused of involvement in the multi-crore fodder scam, the then chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav managed to make his wife his successor in 1997, and ever since she is continuing.

As she knew little about politics, she appeared to be a mere figurehead and it is generally believed that Lalu runs the state by remote control.

Born in the year 1959, in the family of Sri Sib Prasad Chaudhary of Salarkalan, Line Bazar, Gopalganj, she got married to Lalu Yadav in 1973.

As she has special interest for Welfare of women and children, and is very conscious towards upliftment of Dalit and Backward castes, she is considered as the symbol of social justice.
