Getting information to you when you need it

The Highways Agency is dedicated to making your journey as smooth as possible. Where delays occur, planned or otherwise, we want to get you the information you need as quickly and easily as possible, to help you make informed decisions about your travel plans.

At the top of this page - and every page of this website - you'll find live information about current conditions on our roads, updated and delivered to you in real-time. Clicking any item will take you to a more detailed description of the incident.

But we understand that sometimes, this at-a-glance view isn't enough. That's why we're now making the information available direct to your PC desktop. So long as you're connected to the internet, you can view full details about traffic incidents in real time, without even having to open your web browser.

To take advantage of this free service, all you need to do is download and install a small file to your computer. It will put a small car icon in the bottom corner of your screen, which you can click whenever you want, to scroll through traffic incidents at your own pace.

  • Download the Desktop Traffic Headlines application (new version now available)

Just follow the on-screen instructions and you'll be up and running in a couple of minutes. Here's how it looks:

We've also made our traffic information available as an RSS feed. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it's a way of letting you see when your favourite websites update their content. You get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as they're published, without having to visit lots of different sites.

If you use a news-enabled browser like Firefox, or a standalone newsreader such as SpeedDemon or My Yahoo!, you can try our RSS service now. Just click the RSS button or paste this link http://www.highways.gov.uk/rssfeed/rss.xml into your newsreader. rss

Organisations and corporate users please read our RSS feed terms and conditions
