Beltline Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP)
Calgary City Council approved the Beltline ARP on May 15, 2006.
The Beltline ARP provides a framework for the future development of an area generally bounded by the CPR tracks on the north, the Elbow River on the east, the Elbow River and 17 Avenue on the south and 14 Street on the west. The area includes the majority of Stampede Park.
The Plan envisions the Beltline as a livable and diverse community with a high density urban population. To achieve this, the Plan proposes a comprehensive set of land use policies and implementation tools that encourages a high level of mixed uses and an enhanced public environment. The Plan includes, among other things:
- urban design guidelines for the development of new buildings and for existing and new public spaces and streets to ensure that new development results in a high quality living and pedestrian environment
- density bonus provisions that require high density developments to contribute to the improvement of the public environment, contribute community amenities or affordable housing, preserve heritage or incorporate sustainable building features
- transportation policies
- community and social development policies
- provisions for heritage preservation and development within character areas, such as the warehouse district.
Implementation
Now that the Beltline ARP has been approved it needs to be implemented by redesignating land use districts throughout the Beltline to align them with the approved policy.
