Trash Mashelkar panel report on patent law: CPI-M
New Delhi, Feb. 22 (PTI): The CPI-M today asked the government to discard the R A Mashelkar-led expert committee report on Patent Law, saying several conclusions in it were "verbatim reproduction" of a paper financially supported by major US, European and Japanese pharma companies.
In a statement, the party Polit Bureau also demanded steps to constitute another expert committee comprising "persons with intellectual integrity and committed to uphold the common people's interests."
"Many conclusions in the (Mashelkar) report are verbatim reproduction of a research paper prepared under a project supported by Interpat, a Swiss association of major European, Japanese and US based pharmaceutical companies," the CPI(M) said.
After the public exposure, the Mashelkar panel has written to the government asking that the report be withdrawn on grounds of technical inaccuracy and plagiarism.
