1981: Vinny Testaverde Graduates
from Sewanhaka High School
While attending Sewanhaka
High School in Floral Park, future New York Jet Vinny Testaverde
played football on his school’s team. In 1979, the team was
awarded the “Rutgers Cup” as Nassau County’s most
outstanding team. After graduating in 1981, Testaverde attended
the University of Miami, winning the Heisman Trophy during his senior
year. He spent the first eleven years of his NFL career playing
for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Cleveland Browns, and the Baltimore
Ravens. In 1998, the quarterback returned to Long Island, joining
the New York Jets. That year, his teammates named him their Most
Valuable Player. The team trained at Hofstra University, only ten
minutes away from his hometown. Testaverde, who will be released
from the Jets on June 1, is currently considering different options.
He is shown here in a 1987 photograph.
