BIRKENHEAD LIBRARY & CIVIC CENTRE
Plans for the new library and civic centre are about to take a positive
step forward following the decision of the Environment Court to uphold
the plan change on Nell Fisher Reserve, enabling the reserve to be used
for the new building.
The Community Services and Parks Committee has approved a building of
up to nine metres in height for the Birkenhead Library & Civic Centre
to be progressed to the preliminary design stage.
The Architecture Office will now work on the design which will be limited
to a prescribed footprint on the site as determined by the Environment
Court. The building will be smaller than the original design but will
provide a very attractive combined library and community services space
that the community has been waiting for.
It is expected that the preliminary design will be progressed over the
next few months.
Thank you all for supporting the library and civic centre project which
is now underway again. The big celebration will be when we dig the first
