Phillippe Aumont, the hard-throwing pitcher from Gatineau, Que., became the third highest Canadian ever selected in baseball's annual draft, going 11th overall to the Seattle Mariners.

Stat of the Day

The Rockies defeated the Padres in extra innings on Monday to win their one-game playoff for the NL wild card. It was the first time San Diego had a two-run lead in extras and lost since June 13, 2004, when the Padres dropped a 6-5, 12-inning decision at Yankee Stadium, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
