Preseason recap: Devils 2, Islanders 1

newjerseydevils.comZach Parise scored a goal and an assist on the power play as the Devils concluded the preseason with a 2-1 win over the Islanders on Saturday night in Bridgeport, Conn.

Dainius Zubrus scored the other goal for the Devils, who got 20 saves from Martin Brodeur in his third straight start.

Parise scored the winning goal during a 5-on-3 advantage with 3:44 remaining in the second. Andy Greene's point shot hit the post, and bounced right to Parise for a tap-in goal.

New Jersey (4-2) erased a 1-0 deficit on the power play with 1:34 remaining in the first. Parise went behind the net and fed the puck on his backhand to Zubrus at the right post, who hit the open side of the net.

The Devils wrapped the preseason with three straight wins, and now look ahead to opening the regular season in Tampa Bay on October 4.

New Jersey will play its first nine games on the road before returning to open the Prudential Center on October 27 against the Ottawa Senators.
