Marion Jones pleads guilty to steroid use

Olympic track and field star Marion Jones pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents in connection to her steroid use. On Thursday, the Washington Post first reported that Jones admitted to friends and family in a letter of her illegal use of steroids starting in 1999, a claim she previous denied -- even under oath during the BALCO investigations.  More...

Raptors exercise option on Bargnani

The Raptors exercised the third-year team option on Andrea Bargnani's rookie contract Friday. The move, made during a press conference in the office of Rome mayor Walter Veltroni, locks him up through 2008-09. The team retains a fourth-year option on Bargnani for 2009-10. "Andrea has more than lived up to the enormous expectations thrust on him last season as the top pick of the draft," Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo said in a release. More...

Pirates fire manager Jim Tracy

Jim Tracy was fired as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday after two seasons filled with long losing streaks and little discernible progress. The team scheduled an afternoon news conference to announce the dismissal. Tracy's patience and back-patting weren't enough to turn around the Pirates. He produced records of 67-95 in 2006 and 68-94 this season, the shortest run of any non-interim Pirates manager since Bill Virdon was fired late into his second season in 1973. More...

Parnevik has 4-stroke Texas Open lead

Jesper Parnevik followed his career-best opening 61 with a 5-under 65 on Friday to take a four-stroke lead midway through the Texas Open. The 42-year-old Swede had a 14-under 126 total, the lowest 36-hole score on the PGA Tour this year and just a stroke off the tour record of 125 held by Tiger Woods, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Lehman and Corey Pavin. More...

Franchitti learns from first ARCA race

It took Dario Franchitti less than a straightaway to know he was in foreign territory Friday at Talladega Superspeedway. The reigning IndyCar Series champion and Indianapolis 500 winner saw the green flag wave for the start of Friday's ARCA RE/MAX 250, his stock car debut, and immediately ran out of room on the highbanked 2.66-mile oval. More...

Pellerud: CSA needs to make changes

The Canadian Soccer Association must solve its internal problems and devote more resources to the men's and women's programs if the country's soccer teams are going to succeed at the international level, says women's coach Even Pellerud. "The sad fact of the matter is we are not professionally running the national teams," Pellerud said.  More...

Steelers' Ward will not face Seahawks

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward will miss his second game in a row Sunday because of a right knee injury. Ward has been unable to practice since he was hurt Sept. 23 against San Francisco. Before sitting out last weekend's 21-14 loss at Arizona, Ward had missed only three games to injury in his 10-year NFL career. More...

Bills' Price likely done for season

Buffalo Bills receiver Peerless Price's season is likely over after he was scheduled to have surgery Friday to repair a disc in his neck. Coach Dick Jauron said the team will place Price on injured reserve, making him the eighth Bills player - and fourth starter - on the season-ending list five weeks into the campaign. The announcement came as a surprise, because Price had not missed practice until Friday. More...
