The Scots look on as Argentina celebrate
Scotland were left to contemplate what might have been
Flanker Allister Hogg felt Scotland wasted a golden opportunity to defeat Argentina after they went down 19-13 in their World Cup quarter-final.

"We had some chances and felt we had the beating of Argentina and could go further in this tournament, so we're disappointed," he said.

"It was pretty tough. We tried to play a bit of a territorial game, but it didn't come off.

"They are a good side, well drilled, they know each other very well."

Scotland only put real pressure on the Argentines in the final 10 minutes, when they attempted a wider passing game.

Fly-half Dan Parks agreed with Hogg's assessment and insisted the Scots should have won.

We didn't play well enough. But, credit to the Argentina defence, they made life very difficult for us

Scotland coach Frank Hadden

"I thought we played well in the second half," he said.

"We probably started a bit too late in the game. We had a chance at the end but didn't take it.

"It's a heart-breaking way to go out because we could have got over the line there but didn't.

"We will look back at the tape and think we should have won. But we'll move on."

606: DEBATE

Coach Frank Hadden said the Pumas' maturity was key to their success.

"They had a stranglehold on the game and are very difficult to play against," he concluded.

"They were a bit more mature in the decision-making around the ball.

"We didn't play well enough. But, credit to the Argentina defence, they made life very difficult for us. It took us just a little bit too long to get into the game.

"I am very confident that our young side will learn from this. "Some of these young players have matured a lot in a short space of time and I think in next Six Nations we will be a side to be reckoned with."

Captain Jason White added: "We made too many mistakes on the ball."
