New Plan for Peace in Darfur Neighbors
The European Union and the United Nations would start planning for a joint operation in Chad and the Central African Republic under a French proposal circulated Tuesday that aims at protecting civilians from the spillover of the Darfur conflict. Xymphora: Embarrassments of 'Save Darfur': Now that there is going to be an African peacekeeping force sent to Darfur, you would think that the ‘Save Darfur’ crowd – the Zionists who wish to ‘save’ Darfur by sending American and British troops to Sudan to remove the Islamist government and kill Muslims – would shut the fuck up.

CIA criticises former director over 9/11 attacks
An internal inquiry conducted by the CIA has accused the organisation's leadership of failing to prepare for an al Qaeda attack before the Sept 11th 2001 attacks on the US. The leadership was accused of failing to use available powers, failing to develop a comprehensive plan to stop al-Qaeda and missing crucial opportunities to thwart two hijackers in the run-up to Sept. 11. "The agency and its officers did not discharge their responsibilities in a satisfactory manner," the CIA inspector general found. IndyStar: Report: CIA failed in pre-9/11 terror fight. The torture of Jose Padilla
AFTER more than three months of testimony, it took a federal jury just 11 hours to find so-called “dirty bomber” Jose Padilla guilty on all counts last week. Gordon Johndroe, a spokesperson for the White House, declared that “Jose Padilla received a fair trial and a just verdict.” But from beginning to end, there was nothing fair or just about the government’s railroading of Padilla. Gestapo, death camp archive is delivered: 20 million pages
The keepers of a Nazi archive have delivered copies of Gestapo papers and concentration camp records to museums in Washington and Jerusalem, providing Holocaust survivors a paper trail of their own persecution. Six computer hard drives bearing electronic images of 20 million pages arrived late Monday at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and at the Yad Vashem Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem.

"New York Times" calls for escalation of the “good war” in Afghanistan
The thrust of the editorial is indicated by its title, “The Good War, Still to be Won.” The basic policy prescription is summed up in the following lines: “America has never had enough troops in Afghanistan, not in 2001, when Osama bin Laden was on the run in the caves of Tora Bora, and not today, when much of the country is still without effective authority.... Afghanistan, larger and more populous than Iraq, now has 23,500 American troops. Iraq has about 160,000.”

Book reading in U.S. is not ravenous, study finds
There it sits on your night stand, that book you've meant to read for who knows how long but haven't yet cracked open. Tonight, as you feel its stare from beneath that teetering pile of magazines, know one thing — you are not alone. One in four adults read no books at all in the past year, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll released Tuesday. Of those who did read, women and older people were most avid, and religious works and popular fiction were the top choices. Think Progress: POLL: Liberals Read More Books Than Conservatives.

New Mystery Fish Photos

Here’s a new mystery fish photograph just received. Anyone have any ideas what it is? Although it is not a cryptid, it certainly is an unknown until identified. These photos are making the Internet rounds as evidence of a new world record piranha, an extremely dubious identification. Meanwhile, the Cryptomundo mystery fish photograph on an antique postcard (first noted at Cryptomundo on November 29, 2005, contributed by phyllis) has still not been solved.

The BBC's 'WTC 7 Collapsed At 4:54 p.m.' (Videos)
Proof that a script was being followed that day. BBC reported the collapse of WTC-7 before it actually happened, while the building was still visible standing behind the reporter! Leahy: Barking Up the Decidership Tree
Senator Patrick Leahy is apparently unable to process reality, as he believes Congress actually retains a modicum of power in the District of Criminals. “Leahy returned to Washington from vacation Monday to urge the White House to respond to his committee’s subpoenas seeking information about [the neocon NSA snoop program]. He said he is disappointed that the administration did not make the deadline but he is open to negotiations,” reports the Chicago Tribune. In other words, Mr. Leahy may as well whistle in the wind, as the neocons, proponents of an unanswerable decidership—along the lines of Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt’s Die Diktatur—plan to ignore all subpoenas as they work their way toward their own Article 48 provision (the German constitution contained this provision, allowing Hitler to declare state of emergency and presidential rule by executive order). ThinkProgress: Leahy: Cheney Told GOP-Led Congress It Was ‘Not Allowed To Issue Subpoenas’ .

Tens of thousands of tourists fled the beaches of the Mayan Riviera on Monday as monstrous Hurricane Dean roared toward the ancient ruins and modern oil installations of the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexico’s state oil company, Petroleos de Mexico, said it was evacuating all of its more than 14,000 offshore workers in the southern Gulf of Mexico.

U.S. MARTIAL LAW TIMELINE
It doesn’t take much imagination to foresee ‘Blackwater-style’ martial law in all of America. “Since the totalitarian ruler conducts his policies on the assumption of an eventual world government, he treats the victims of his aggression as though they were rebels, guilty of high treason, and consequently prefers to rule occupied territories with police, and not with military forces.” Pre-emptive measures have now been proposed for Hurricane Dean - which has not even happened yet. The above photo is representative of what seems to be happening to the democratic process in America.

Joe LIEberman: US Senator from Tel Aviv wants more war
The United States is at last making significant progress against al Qaeda in Iraq--but the road to victory now requires cutting off al Qaeda's road to Iraq through Damascus. Thanks to Gen. David Petraeus's new counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq, and the strength and skill of the American soldiers fighting there, al Qaeda in Iraq is now being routed from its former strongholds in Anbar and Diyala provinces. Many of Iraq's Sunni Arabs, meanwhile, are uniting with us against al Qaeda, alienated by the barbarism and brutality of their erstwhile allies.

Free Kassim!

In May 2002, the Italian citizen Abou Elkassim Britel, handcuffed, hooded and denuded, dressed only in a sanitary diaper, was chained and then transferred by the CIA from Pakistan to Morocco, where he had been tortured by Moroccan Intelligence Agents, and where he is currently incarcerated. In May 2003, freed without having been accused, after a long and terrible secret detention, at the moment of reentry to Italy, he was once again kidnapped and had disappeared; this time the Italian Secret Services were accomplice. He underwent another four months of secret detention and was again tortured, then he was put on trial without any kind of guarantee. First he was condemned to fifteen years in jail, then the sentence was reduced to nine years. Today he is incarcerated in the Ain Bourja prison of Casablanca, where he will be freed in 2012. Mizan center calls on Abbas to restore electricity to Gaza
Al-Mizan center for human rights called on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to work on restoring electricity to the Gaza Strip and not to drag the civilians into the crossfire of political conflicts, warning of an imminent human catastrophe in the Strip as a result of the power outage. The center called on the international community to take urgent action to prevent a human tragedy in the Gaza Strip and to stop the mass punishments imposed by the IOA, especially with regard to securing fuel supplies for the power station and to work on stopping the siege on Gaza and closures of terminals.

2007: The Year of the Lion
A very interesting article about the strange 30 year jump from one major event to the next in the Zionist narrative. Now, if mathematics is not an opinion, this year is the next step in that tradition, thirty years from the latest stage in the development of Zionism in Palestine and, excepting major upheavals, there doesn’t seem to be any earth-shattering political change on the horizon. Are we really so sure of that?It is a rather lengthy piece, but I believe it is a must read. By Diego Traversa, Translated from Italian by Mary Rizzo

Remains of WWII airman found on top of Sierra Nevada glacier

Hikers discovered the remains of a man believed to be a missing World War II airman resting on top of a Sierra Nevada glacier not far from the spot where a missing aviation cadet's body was found two years ago, authorities said. The second set of human remains were found in a high alpine region of Kings Canyon National Park on Wednesday, no more than 100 feet (30 meters) from where climbers spotted the ice-entombed body of Leo Mustonen in October 2005, park officials said Monday. Rangers located the second body exposed on a remote glacier resting among granite boulders, his undeployed parachute stenciled «US ARMY» just inches (centimeters) away. «It looks like his head was just resting on the rock,» said Debbie Brenchley, the first ranger to spot the remains on Friday after hikers reported the find. «You can see he has a wool sweater on, and a white collar and a ring on. Lieberman: 'Road To Victory' Now Runs Through Syria
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) writes today in the Wall Street Journal that the U.S. “road to victory” in Iraq goes through Damascus, and urges Congress to “send a clear and unambiguous message to the Syrian regime“: The United States is at last making significant progress against al Qaeda in Iraq–but the road to victory now requires cutting off al Qaeda’s road to Iraq through Damascus. The Outer Limits: The War Party's wackos are indicative of a trend
When the president's men talk about the "unitary presidency," when the editor of National Review "jokes" about nuking Mecca, when the more unhinged neocons darkly imply that critics of the war and the Dear Leader should be jailed, they always qualify it, mask it, and sweeten the bitter pill of what Lew Rockwell calls "red-state fascism." But sometimes they let the mask slip…

Details emerge of vast scope of US domestic spying law
New reports underscore the extraordinary scope of a law passed earlier this month expanding government powers to spy on the population in the US and internationally. The “Protect America Act of 2007,” passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress, effectively overrides the ban on “unreasonable searches and seizures” laid down by the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution.

The vanishing right to travel
The freedom to travel has joined habeas corpus and freedom from unwarranted searches on America's endangered rights list. Over the last 10 years, a combination of federal legislation, court decisions and new federal regulations have greatly reduced the rights of U.S. citizens to travel internationally and domestically.

Padilla Jury Opens Pandora's Box: A Grave Blow to the Constitution
Jose Padilla's conviction on terrorism charges on August 16 was a victory, not for justice, but for the US Justice (sic) Department's theory that a US citizen can be convicted, not because he committed a terrorist act but for allegedly harboring aspirations to commit such an act. By agreeing with the Justice (sic) Department's theory, the incompetent Padilla Jury delivered a deadly blow to the rule of law and opened Pandora's Box. Anglo-American law is a human achievement 800 years in the making. Over centuries law was transformed from a weapon in the hands of government into a shield of the people from unaccountable power. The Padilla Jury's verdict turned law back into a weapon.

General denies OK'ing Abu Ghraib torture
Army Maj. Gen. Barbara Fast has denied allegations by the former chief of Iraq's military prison system that she knew about and approved harsh interrogation methods at the Abu Ghraib prison. An international human rights scandal exploded around Abu Ghraib in April 2004, when the CBS news program "60 Minutes II" aired photos showing inmates in sexually degrading poses. Subsequent investigations concluded that American guards had beaten, humiliated, threatened with attack dogs and otherwise mistreated some Iraqi inmates.

EU Cuts Off Funding for Gaza Electricity
Electricity in Gaza on Monday became the latest battleground in the struggle between the coastal strip's Islamic Hamas rulers and their Fatah rivals, who have accused Hamas of pocketing electricity revenues. Protesters gather for Quebec summit
Angry anarchists and family-friendly activists converged on the posh Montebello resort in Quebec on Monday to protest the North American Leaders' Summit. They carried signs condemning U.S. President George W. Bush as a war criminal and calling for an end to environmental destruction.

Hurricane Dean, Extremely Dangerous, Heads to Mexico

Hurricane Dean, with sustained winds at about 150 miles per hour and strengthening, bore down on Belize and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula after cutting power lines, ripping off roofs and flooding streets in Jamaica, U.S. forecasters said. Dean, an ``extremely dangerous'' storm, was centered about 125 miles (201 kilometers) southwest of Grand Cayman and about 385 miles east of Belize City just before 11 a.m. Miami time, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an online advisory. The storm was heading west at 21 mph, with landfall predicted early tomorrow along Mexico's Mayan Riviera, north of Belize and south of the resorts of Cancun and Cozumel. VIDEO: Economic Collapse As Precursor To Open Plan For Martial Law?

'The open announcement of a program on behalf of the federal government that is recruiting clergy to aid the authorities in "quelling dissent," gun confiscation and forced relocation in the event of martial law has many worried that the current economic plunge could be the precursor for a state of emergency in America.' The open announcement of a program on behalf of the federal government that is recruiting clergy to aid the authorities in "quelling dissent," gun confiscation and forced relocation in the event of martial law has many worried that the current economic plunge could be the precursor for a state of emergency in America. A KSLA 12 news report out of Louisiana confirmed a story we originally broke last year - that religious leaders are being enrolled into a federal program that trains them how to "quell dissent" and make people obey the government in the aftermath of a declaration of martial law following a mass casualty terror attack or a natural disaster.

America’s Use of Radiological Weapons Part I

In 1991 the US military introduced a new weapon that the people of the world–––with hindsight–––will probably come to view as symbolic of America’s failed leadership after the Cold War. The introduced weapon was a new kind of munition: shells and bullets made from depleted uranium (DU). It turned out to be extremely effective in the first Gulf War against the forces of Saddam Hussein. Unfortunately, the DU weapons also proved nearly as dangerous to our own troops and to Iraqi civilians. The military alliance cobbled together by George Bush Sr. won a decisive victory in that war. But since its conclusion at least 13,000 American veterans have died from DU-related causes, far more than the 148 who died in combat; and of the nearly 700,000 who served in the war at least 250,000 are now (in 2007) permanently disabled; a percentage far higher than in any previous war.[1] Despite this, Pentagon generals continue to insist that DU munitions pose no danger, and remain committed to their use. Even as I write, the Department of Defense (DoD) moves ahead with research that could lead to the deployment of DU weapons in space.[2] Yet, a UN Sub-Committee has declared DU weapons illegal, and last November the European Union (EU) issued its fourth call for a DU moratorium. More and more frequently, one hears the charge that America’s use of these weapons in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia was a war crime. In 2004, for example, a citizen’s tribunal in Japan convicted George W. Bush in absentia for crimes against humanity.[3] Is America headed for a showdown with the world over depleted uranium? See Who's Editing Wikipedia - Diebold, the CIA, a Campaign

On November 17th, 2005, an anonymous Wikipedia user deleted 15 paragraphs from an article on e-voting machine-vendor Diebold, excising an entire section critical of the company's machines. While anonymous, such changes typically leave behind digital fingerprints offering hints about the contributor, such as the location of the computer used to make the edits. In this case, the changes came from an IP address reserved for the corporate offices of Diebold itself. And it is far from an isolated case. A new data-mining service launched Monday traces millions of Wikipedia entries to their corporate sources, and for the first time puts comprehensive data behind longstanding suspicions of manipulation, which until now have surfaced only piecemeal in investigations of specific allegations. Wikipedia Scanner -- the brainchild of Cal Tech computation and neural-systems graduate student Virgil Griffith -- offers users a searchable database that ties millions of anonymous Wikipedia edits to organizations where those edits apparently originated, by cross-referencing the edits with data on who owns the associated block of internet IP addresses.

FBI, CIA Scriveners Edit Wikipedia Entries
According to Reuters, “CIA and FBI computers have edited entries in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia on topics including the Iraq war and the Guantanamo prison, according to a new tracing program.” No doubt, as well, the FBI and CIA have made other changes to “the world’s most important online encyclopaedia,” editorial changes not as grandiose as expanding former CIA chief William Colby’s entry, dumping a chart on Iraq casualties, or removing satellite images of the concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. You can bet they edited scads of lesser entries as well.

More Details on the Wikipedia Propaganda Encyclopedia
Now that Wikipedia has found it appropriate to excise the error riddled entry slandering your humble blogger—who was, thanks to nameless dilettantes of unknown employ, chalked up as an antisemite and Holocaust denier—I am wishing for a pony, namely the demise of the online propaganda and slander database masquerading as an encyclopedia. As it turns out, and I reported here late last week, Wikipedia is a magnet for the CIA and FBI, tasked with revising history and, no doubt as well, slamming the opposition, an effort with a long and sordid history.

Boycott movement targets Israel

When does a citizen-led boycott of a state become morally justified? That question is raised by an expanding academic, cultural and economic boycott of Israel. The movement joins churches, unions, professional societies and other groups based in the United States, Canada, Europe and South Africa. It has elicited dramatic reactions from Israel's supporters. U.S. labor leaders have condemned British unions, representing millions of workers, for supporting the Israel boycott. American academics have been frantically gathering signatures against the boycott, and have mounted a prominent advertising campaign in American newspapers - unwittingly elevating the controversy further in the public eye. Israel's defenders have protested that Israel is not the worst human-rights offender in the world, and singling it out is hypocrisy, or even anti-Semitism. Rhetorically, this shifts focus from Israel's human rights record to the imagined motives of its critics.

Bush Plan to Log Giant Sequoia Monument Ruled Illegal

SAN FRANCISCO, California - The Bush administration's plan to allow commercial logging in California's Giant Sequoia National Monument is illegal, a federal judge ruled Tuesday in two companion cases - one brought by the state of California and the other brought by conservation groups. "The Forest Service's interest in harvesting timber has trampled the applicable environmental laws," wrote Judge Charles Breyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, ruling in the conservation groups' case. Complaints against the U.S. Forest Service were brought by the Sierra Club, Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign, Earth Island Institute, Tule River Conservancy, Sequoia Forest Keeper, and Center for Biological Diversity, and in separate suit filed by the California Attorney General. Found only in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, Giant sequoias can live as long as 3,000 years.

COEXISTENCE: Humanity’s Wailing Wall

By: Dom Martin

Dom Martin's earlier book of illustrated poetry, Exodus to Eternity, published in the millennium year 2002, explored in fascinating ways, man's inhumanity towards his fellowmen. His present volume, which echoes the first, CoEXISTENCE: Humanity’s Wailing Wall, is a collection of some 77 poems. The pages are graced by the poet-artist's unique and often-startling pencil drawings, which remind one of the agonies expressed in Pablo Picasso's famous painting, “Guernica”.
