Mobile SHAC serves members of the
community who have limited access to community clinics and other local social services. MSHAC also
helps these patients understand their often complicated health needs and and maintains contact with
their primary care providers. Student volunteers from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy,
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work collaborate in health-care teams that work
with individuals for a year.
MSHAC teams visit on a monthly basis, and assess the patient's
health status, living conditions and concerns about both. The teams report to a professional who
volunteers with MSHAC, and informs the patient's physicians about their assessment.
In addition to these monthly visits, MSHAC teams may organize special projects that will benefit the patient's standard of living. These projects are financed by generous donors and assisted by contributors with expertise in the project's area. Past projects include improving a patient's deck to reduce their risk of injury, improving a patient's bathroom so they did not slip, and helping a patient clean their house.
