On Tuesday 18 September 2007 Trevor Ncube, Chief Executive, Mail & Guardian Media Group (South Africa), delivered the 2007 Oppenheimer Lecture on the theme of "Towards a New Zimbabwe: Challenges and Opportunities".

Trevor Ncube is the Chief Executive of the Mail & Guardian Media Group (South Africa), which he bought in 2002. He is also the founder, owner and executive chairman of two newspapers in Zimbabwe, namely the Zimbabwe Independent and The Standard.
Mr Ncube started in journalism in 1989 when he was appointed assistant editor of the Financial Gazette in Zimbabwe. In 1991 he was promoted to Executive Editor and in 1994 received the Zimbabwean Editor of the Year award. Mr Ncube is the President of Print Media S.A. and chairs the Newspaper Association of S.A. He chairs the boards of the Southern African Regional Poverty Network and the Institute for War & Peace Reporting. He also serves on the international board of the World Association of Newspapers based in Paris.
He was born in Bulawayo in 1962 and has a BA honours (first class) in economic history (University of Zimbabwe). He was awarded a Print Media S.A. Fellowship in 2006 and the International Publishers Association IPI Awards 2007.
