Stuart Broad and Ravi Bopara's heroic 99-run partnership saw England stage a remarkable recovery to win the fourth match in the NatWest Series against India by three wickets.
The contest looked over after the home side crashed to 114 for seven under the Old Trafford floodlights in pursuit of India's 212 all out.
But after delivering his best one-day international bowling figures with four for 51, Broad (45 not out) followed suit with the bat to hand England a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven contest.
He and Bopara (43no) needed to break England's record eighth-wicket stand in ODIs to complete the comeback after India's recalled all-rounder Ajit Agarkar had earlier run riot.
He claimed four key wickets, including those of Ian Bell (24), Kevin Pietersen (18) and Andrew Flintoff (five).
Despite being well ahead of the required run rate, when England captain Paul Collingwood (47) was needlessly run out by Yuvraj Singh, the game looked over.
But the two youngest players in the team had other ideas as they tiptoed home with 12 balls remaining.
