Cyclone Ted passed south-west then south-east through the mid-Gulf and severely damaged Mornington Island and Burketown. At Karumba, the wharf and prawn processing facility were severely damaged. An unmeasured storm surge accompanying he cyclone was reported to extend inland for 30kms near Normantown. As the remnants of Ted moved down through western Queensland an estimated 250,000 sheep perished due to flooding and unusually cold temperatures.
