The Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center is one of the nation's premier collegiate gymnastics facilities. One of only a handful of freestanding, co-ed college gyms, the 13,500 square foot Viersen Center is across the road from the Sooners basketball facility, the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Viersen Center's main area is divided by an 816 square foot in-ground pit. Every piece of men's and women's equipment, with the exception of pommel horse, is either over or adjacent to the foam-filled pit. The gym also features a separate rod floor, on-site exercise equipment, including bikes and freestanding weights, mirrors for dance instruction, a spectator viewing area with bleachers and a state-of-the-art video and sound system. All of these help OU gymnasts be the best they can be.

The building reflects the OU program's style in its modern architecture and interior design. Adjacent to the gym area are offices for the OU coaching staff, locker rooms for the men and women named after Oklahoma Olympians Bart Conner and Kelly Garrison and a fully equipped sports medicine room.

The Viersen Center lobby features a multitude of Oklahoma gymnastics trophies and memorabilia, including an impressive six foot bronze statue of OU's own Bart Conner, donated to the University by the artist.

Funded primarily by private donations, the Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center was constructed at a cost of approximately $1 million. A generous donation by Sam Viersen of Viersen-Cochran Drilling Company of Okmulgee, Okla., resulted in the building carrying his name.
