Overview
The dynamic Ford Focus continues to deliver refinement and premium features for 2004. The 2.3-liter I-4 engine introduced in select states during the 2003 model year is available nationwide for 2004. Changes to the front suspension improve ride quality while maintaining the Focus’ award-winning handling characteristics.

Focus is versatile, fun to drive and easy to own. Since its introduction in Europe in 1998 and in the United States as a 2000 model, Focus has won praise for its performance, handling and package ingenuity. It has been elected as one of Car and Driver magazine’s 10 best cars for four straight years.

Focus is available for 2004 in four distinct body styles – three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, four-door wagon and the five-door hatchback – and three trim levels. It is built in Wayne, Mich., and Hermosillo, Mexico.

Design and Equipment
The European, edgy design of Focus continues for 2004 with broad, sweeping shapes and an airy feel lent to the cabin by the vehicle’s tall profile.

Inside, sporty woven seat material is aimed at younger buyers, while an available textured velour fabric offers a more upscale ambiance. Extensive testing has been done to both fabrics for color and wear durability, simulating 10 years and 100,000 miles of use, including ultraviolet radiation testing to ensure the fabric holds up to harsh sunlight that can fade materials.

Light Tundra Clearcoat Metallic, new last year to the four-door sedan and wagon models, is now available on ZX3 and ZX5 as well.

Powertrain
A 145-horsepower 2.3-liter I-4 was introduced after the start of the 2003 model year in select states as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV)-certified car. The engine is available nationwide as an option in the Focus lineup for 2004 and is standard in California, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Maine.

The 130-horsepower 2.0-liter Zetec I-4 also continues to be available and is standard in most states on SE, ZX3 and ZX5 models. This engine is matched with the MTX75 five-speed manual transaxle, which is designed with low-friction needle-roller bearings and uses low-viscosity oil to help improve fuel economy and performance.

A 110-horsepower 2.0-liter I-4 split-port induction engine is standard on Focus LX. This engine is matched with an IB5 five-speed manual transaxle that uses synthetic lubricant to help ensure durability and smooth shifting in cold weather.

A four-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transaxle is available on all models.

Safety
Focus has Ford Motor Company’s Personal Safety System as standard equipment.

“Safety cell” body construction helps provide crash-management protection in the event of a collision. Specific body structure areas are designed to absorb and spread impact forces.

A glow-in-the-dark emergency release handle provides a means of escape in case anyone is locked in the sedan’s trunk.
