COMMODORE 1541 VIC 20 DISK DRIVE
In the United States in 1955 a World War II ex-concentration camp survivor named Jack Tramiel started Commodore International. His first products were calculators and adding machines but was into the computer business by 1976 when he purchased MOS Technologies. He set out and became a supplier to Apple and Atari. Throughout his time at Commodore, Tramiel had a habit of taking loans, large ones, from his vendors. He would not pay them back and then as the vendor was going out of business Tramiel would come in and buy them out. This enforced his dominance in the early computer days. In 1984, Jack Tramiel resigned from head of Commodore after a dispute with his main stock holder. He later took over at Atari.
Tramiel-isms (from The Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven Kent)
"Business is like sex, you have to be involved"
"We need to build computers for the masses, not the classes"
