An NHS trust created in April last year has been praised for its mental health services.
Independent watchdog the Healthcare Commission rated the quality of the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust's services as "excellent".
Its use of resources was also described as "good".
The trust took over services run by the former County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust and Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust.
Con Egan, chief executive of the trust, said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the trust in its first year and testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff.
"The high standard of our services and our sound financial management place us in a strong position as we move forward to become a foundation trust."
