October 17, 2007 - So, Manhunt 2's finally coming out at the end of the month, tamer but not yet tamed. Rah. I let it slide on by when the Entertainment Software Rating Board originally slapped Manhunt 2 with an Adults Only rating last June, because everybody else talked it out pretty well before I could get to it. Funny thing is, nobody seemed to dispute the AO rating. There wasn't one cry of censorship, not one accusation of punitive treatment... not from fans, journalists, or even the publisher. The ESRB pegged it right. Manhunt 2 was ultraviolent, psychologically disturbing, and absolutely not for kids. Fine. Good. That's information we should have in hand when deciding whether to buy it for ourselves or for others. But what happened next took things to a genuinely stupid place.
