Mainichi Shimbun logo

With a combined morning and evening circulation exceeding 5.5 million copies daily, the 135-year-old Mainichi Shimbun is one of the three largest newspapers in the world, according to the World Association of Newspapers.
The Mainichi Shimbun has won the Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association Award, the most prestigious prize in Japanese journalism, 21 times -- more often than any other newspaper in Japan.
In 1961, Mainichi photographer Yasushi Nagao won the Pulitzer Prize for his photo Tokyo Stabbing of the assassination of Japan Socialist Party Chairman Inejiro Asanuma, making Mainichi Shimbun the first Japanese newspaper to receive the award.
To get this world-class quality newspaper delivered in Japan, please fill out the Mainichi Shimbun subscription form (in Japanese) here.

Get the Mainichi Shimbun outside Japan

Even if you are overseas, it's possible to read the Mainichi Shimbun at the same time it comes out in Japan.
Thanks to a deal with the Canadian-based company NewspaperDirect, up-to-date editions of the Mainichi newspaper are sold at 250 sales points -- such as hotels, bookstores and cruise ships -- in 64 countries and territories throughout the world.
When you order the newspaper, the data is printed out on tabloid-sized paper, about half the size of the regular broadsheet. Because the data is downloaded as soon as the paper is made, the product is identical to the newspaper as it appears in Japan, just without the full-page ads or regional news pages.
