Singapore observes one minute of silence today

One minute of silence to be observed throughout Singapore

SCDF will sound alert

As a mark of respect for those who perished in the Tsunami Disaster, there will be a national minute of silence on 9 January 2005 at about 6 pm, at the end of the Tsunami Disaster Memorial Service.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will sound an alert (i.e. Chime signal) through its Public Warning System to mark the start of the minute of silence. Members of the public should stop whatever they are doing, where practical, and join in this observance. SCDF will sound another alert (Chime signal) to mark the end of the one-minute silence.
National Flag at half mast
Also as a mark of respect for those who perished in the Tsunami Disaster, the national flag will be flown at half mast on Sunday, 9 January 2005.
Memorial Service
The Tsunami Disaster Memorial Service which will be held at the Singapore Expo Hall 2 is open to all members of the public.
The Memorial Service will be an occasion for us to come together as a nation to remember the victims of the tsunami disaster both in Singapore and across the world, and to pray for the recovery of the injured and the safe return of those who are still missing or unaccounted for. Singapore stands in solidarity with all the countries that have been gravely affected by the disaster.
