I signed up for interviews at my college, but I never get picked or career services does something stupid. Like tell me I have an interview then a day before the schedule interview say that I don't have the interview. That has happened twice. At least one panned out with those guys. Now I will wait patiently for that company to never call back.
I have a phone interview on Wednesday with an energy company. I will do awesome and they won't call me back.
Today I had an interview with a airplane manufacturer at the college's career services department. I killed. I had a lot of practice. They also gave me a flash drive and USB flashlight as a gift. Now its just a waiting game with them. I could get a call next week to take a visit in Wichita or they could never contact me again.
I got an e-mail saying that I'm being considered for something in Jacksonville. I also got a phone call saying that they want to conduct a phone interview next Wednesday.
Yeah, I was thinking of Viewtiful Joe when trying to come up with a title.
In the last installment, I mentioned a career fair, sponsored by my college, I was going to. I went on Thursday. One thing that I noticed is that they treat you a whole lot different if you have a degree instead of expecting it by a date. Some even asked for my transcript! I got a lot of free crap also. Later that day a I got a call to come back on Friday for an interview. The interview went very well, but I was a little sick.
On Monday, I went to the Records Dept. over at UTEP to get my dipolma. I was so happy that I was finally getting it. Then on Wednesday, my mom comes into my room looking very angry. I was asking myself 'What did I do to piss her off?.' She began to say that did I check my dipolma and I told her I just glanced at it. She then told me that they misspelled my first name and she handed it over to me. I checked it and they did get my first name wrong. I had to go all the way to UTEP and give them my diploma back. I have to wait another two months to get a replacement.
Tomorrow, I will be going back to UTEP, for the third time this week, for the Career Fair. I got about forty copies of my resume and my suit ready to go. Hopefully I can find a good lead to a job!
In Base Post #30 I mentioned that a outside recruiter for Goodyear called me about a job. Last week he called me and told me that he set up a phone interview with the company. He coached me up for the interview. I had the interview this Monday. I think I did well. The next step is an on-site interview. Hopefully I get to the next step.
I'm beginning to hate unannounced job interviews over the phone. The first one happened last week (Monday). It was a recruiter from Goodyear. That interview actually went ok, but I still was not prepared to answer the guys questions. If I'm choosen to interview over the phone again, hopefully this one will be at a specific time, I'll have to fly again to the plant for a third and final interview. There are two plants, one in Oklahoma and another in Alabama that I'm a candidate for. I think I might have a chance at this one. The guy gets paid if I get the job. So he will be pushing for me to get this job. And if you are wondering why Goodyear needs an Electrical Engineering grad, I have no idea either.
The most recent unannounced phone interview was with the Bureau of Reclamation. I got a call Tuesday around 400 PM. The guy asked all sorts of questions about my past. The phone interview was being listened to a couple of people. The reason I knew this was because the guy was on a speaker phone and he kept saying "us", "we", and "there are a couple of other people listening to you talk." I was not ready for that interview. I don't think I will be getting a call back from those guys.
By walking, I mean that I never thought about participating in the graduation ceremony in college. During the final months of college I was just pissed off by the whole experience. That can be accredited to the lousy time I had during Senior Project. Senior Project was just a never ending nightmare, but I won't get into it again. I didn't participate in the Senior EE Banquet, the engineering cermony, or the graduation. Do I regret it? No, not really. Not even looking back at it, I don't regret it. I guess that happens when you lose faith in a thing.
As for the job search, does monster even work? I sent about thrity job applications through monster dot com and there has been no feedback. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm beginning to think that I will have to get a job at Mcdonalds. I did not envision that. But I don't think they'll hire me. When they see that I have a degree in Electrical Engineering, they'll probably throw the application away. If all things went according to plan, I believe I would have had a job already. For that, I blame myself for not checking up on and trusting that retard. Then again, how in the hell was I suppose to know that he was lying to me the entire time? Thank God I don't ever have to talk to that asshole again.
It's also been one one month since I could call myself a college grad.
It's going to take two months for the university to give me my dipolma. Not the degree, I already have that, but the piece of paper that will hang on my wall. I wonder why it will take two whole months for them to make a piece of paper with my name saying that I have graduated from college? Maybe the lettering is really fancy.

We will maintain your records for one year. Should a position open that matches your qualifications we will contact you.
Again, thank you for your interest in employment with some company.

The funny thing is that I don't remember applying with this company. At least the guy took sometime out of his day to say they were not interested. The majority of companies don't do that and I appreciate that he did it.
...I don't think I'll ever get a job with the degree I have and I have an Engineering degree.
That's the thought that creeps into my mind at various intervals. Technically, its been seven months since I "graduated", but its been one week and a couple of days since I could call myself a college graduate. The reason is that my degree was on hold until a grade was changed. I'm not going to discuss that part, why my degree was being held, because I have already discussed it and wish not to retell that nightmare story.
As for the job search goes, it goes bad. The company that flew me out to Layfayette turned me down. I'm pretty sure that it had to do with me saying that my degree was on hold and I had no idea when it will be awarded to me. I meet all the requirments asked by them and the fianal interview was basically asking when can I start and salary.
I'm also certain that internet job boards don't work. I use monster, career builder, and after college. Not one of these boards have given me a solid opprotunity, but I guess that I will keep applying until something gives.
