The Scottish Football Association Charities Policy

The Scottish FA receives many requests for assistance from charities and good causes.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to support all such requests.  To guide charitable organisations and individuals, the Scottish FA in dealing with charitable requests, follows the following policy: -

Nominated Charities

The Scottish FA supports football-related charities such as Football Aid and will continue to do so. In addition, each year, the Charities Management Group will select an additional two nominated charities for support, which may take the form of a cash donation, and/or assistance in kind.  Generally speaking, the following causes are more likely to be supported: -
Registered charity or Community Group
Based in Scotland
Linked to support for young people

The following causes are less likely to be supported as a nominated charity: -
Organisation based outside Scotland
Fundraising for an individual
Annual charities
Sporting activity other than football

Charitable organisations wishing to be considered for selection as a nominated charity should submit a written request to the Charities Management Group at the Scottish FA, Hampden Park, Glasgow G42 9AY.

The Nominated charities for any given year will be announced via the Scottish FA website at www.scottishfa.co.uk.

The two nominated charities for 2007 are Diabetes UK Scotland and Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

Individual Requests

As part of this policy, the Scottish FA will endeavour to be flexible to assist groups and individuals with modest requests for smaller raffle prizes to use at fundraising events in aid of the SFA’s nominated charities.

Football Charity Requests

The Scottish FA will continue to support, where possible, charity requests from any of its members or affiliated members where the benefit is related to youths or children’s football (under 18 years of age).

International Partners

The designated international partner country of the Scottish FA is Sierra Leone.  Assistance in kind is given to assist football development in that part of Africa.

Staff fundraising activities

The Charities Sub-Committee shall consider requests from staff for the SFA to support their fundraising activities on a group basis separately.  Assistance in kind will be given, wherever possible to individual members of staff for their own personal fund-raising activities.

Match tickets

No match tickets will be offered as prizes or auction items as this may conflict with contractual commitments.

Hampden Collections

Approval may be given to other organisations – in addition to the nominated charities – for collection boxes to be used at major matches at Hampden.  An appropriate licence must be obtained from the City Council. Requests should be submitted to the Charities Management Group at the Scottish FA.
