Revitalized Leonard to play Ginn sur Mer
Leonard
Justin Leonard, who has a win and a T-6 in his last two starts, will tee it up at the inaugural Ginn sur Mer Classic in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Leonard beat Jesper Parnevik to win the Valero Texas Open earlier in October, added a tie for sixth place at the Fry's Electronics Open this past week, and will try to stay hot at the Ginn in a rather lackluster field. Check out Bench/Start on this web page to see what we think of Leonard's chances and to view our other fantasy choices in the penultimate PGA Tour event of the year. Oct. 24 - 7:46 am et
Armour shares 1st round lead at the Ginn
Tommy Armour III carded a 9-under-par 64 to share the lead with Bob Estes at the Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro.
Tommy Armour sank an 11-foot birdie putt in the darkness of the early evening to claim a share of the first round lead. His round had 10 birdies with one bogey on the card to get around the unusual par-73 course. The early clubhouse leader was Bob Estes and he was able to get around the course with nine birdies on his card. There still is about 20 players that haven't finished their rounds due to darkness and they will resume play at 7:45 Local Time tomorrow morning. Oct. 25 - 7:23 pm et
 Perez withdraws from the Ginn
Pat Perez withdrew on Tuesday morning from the Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro.
Perez had a T-6 finish at last week's Fry's Electronics Open and was one of the favorites to win this week. He has been replaced in the field by Joel Edwards, who has split time this year between the PGA and Nationwide Tours. Oct. 23 - 12:33 pm et
 Clark withdraws from the Ginn
Clark
Tim Clark withdrew from the Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro on Tuesday morning.
Clark was a co-favorite with Lucas Glover to win this week's stop on the Tour and he has missed quite of bit of time on the Tour this year with a disk problem in his neck. He has been replaced in the field by Donnie Hammond, who has been playing on the Nationwide Tour this season. Oct. 23 - 12:16 pm et
Weir wins the Fry's Electronics Open
Weir
Mike Weir carded a final round of 68 to win the Fry's Electronics Open by one stroke.
The final round was played in heavy winds of 25mph. with gusts well over 30 mph. and Weir was able to get around the course through some wonderful iron play. He dueled with Mark Hensby for most of the final round with neither player able to pull more than one stroke away from the other. Weir went into the lead with a birdie at the 15th hole and he looked to be in trouble on the 18th hole when he put his approach into a greenside bunker, but a great recovery shot left him with a 6-foot putt which he sank for the victory. The win is the eighth of Weir's career on the PGA Tour, but it is his first victory since the 2004 Nissan Open. Oct. 21 - 7:46 pm et
 FedExCup schedule changes proposed
Woods
During the Oct. 16 meeting of the Player's Advisory Council, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem told the 16-member PAC that the FedEx Cup (which he proclaimed a "success" in its first year), needed only "minor tweaks" in 2008 and that the PGA Tour would consider PAC recommendations.
Golfweek.com has reported one of those possible adjustments would be reducing playoff fields; the other (based upon PAC input) would be altering the schedule so that the FedEx playoffs and the Ryder Cup Matches (Sept. 19-21 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.) would not be staged in five consecutive weeks. One possible scenario would be a week break after the first two FedExCup playoff events (the Barclays and the Deutsche Bank); followed by the BMW, the Ryder Cup, and another week break; and finally, the FedExCup playoffs would be completed with the Tour Championship. The PGA Tour Policy Board meets Nov. 12 and will consider the proposed changes. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson (among others) have been vocal advocates of breaks in order to avoid having to play seven out of eight weeks or nine out of ten weeks during the FedExCup and Ryder Cup events schedule.  Ryan Moore grabs Rd. 2 Fry's Open lead
Moore
Ryan Moore carded a seven-under-par 63 and vaulted into the lead after two rounds of the Fry's Electronics Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Moore birdied eight of his first 15 holes, withstanding a late bogey on No. 17, and his -10 for the tournament gave him a three-shot lead over Ben Crane, who posted his second-consecutive 66. Mark Hensby's brilliant 61 elevated him to third along with Daisuke Maruyama, who shot 65. Mike Weir (64), Carl Pettersson (66), and Nick Watney (68) are all tied for fifth at -7. Moore, who had an outstanding amateur career, finally appears to have overcome the left hand injury which has plagued him since 2005. Oct. 19 - 9:07 pm et
Mickelson seven and out at Fry's Open
Mickelson
Phil Mickelson shot an even-par 70 Friday and missed the cut at the Fry's Electronics Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Mickelson, an Arizona State alum, was a heavy favorite to win this week at Grayhawk Golf Club (his home course), but a triple-bogey seven at No. 7 derailed both Lefty and his fantasy golf owners. Whether it was the new Callaway Blade irons he had in the bag or the new Bermuda greens at Grayhawk, Mickelson just wasn't able to get on track. Oct. 19 - 8:10 pm et
Michael Allen takes Rd. 1 lead at Fry's
Michael Allen carded an opening round seven-under-par 63 to lead the Fry's Electronics Open by two strokes.
Allen lives in the Scottsdale area and he used his local knowledge to card six birdies, a bogey, and an eagle at the par-4 15th hole. The World's No. 2 player Phil Mickelson knows the Raptor course at Grayhawk Golf Club as well as anyone, but the rust from not playing in a month showed as he hit only 64% of his fairways and had 32 putts which resulted in a 1-over-par 71 for his opening round. The weather for the second round will be hot as the temperature will start in the mid-60's then quickly warming until it peaks at 90 by mid-afternoon, with very light winds from the South at 3 mph.  Phil Mickelson to try new clubs at Fry's
Mickelson
Phil Mickelson announced on The Golf Channel Wednesday that he has put new irons in the bag for this week's Fry's Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale.
As a huge favorite, Lefty may be providing his fantasy owners a bit of trepidation with his rather cavalier attitude towards this event. Having attended Arizona State and later residing at Grayhawk, Mickelson still calls the venue his home course and he looks to be about as close to a "sure thing" as Tiger playing the Tour Championship for the FedExCup. On the other hand, Phil may jit it all over the place and put up a bunch of bogeys. Wonder what Phil will do next? Oct. 18 - 7:41 am et
