Ivy League Players of the Week

CO-OFFENSIVE Columbia junior running back Jordan Davis [Durham, N.C.] nearly doubled his career-best rushing performance of 95 yards with 177 in a 31-7 victory over Marist. He also became the first Lion since Johnathan Reese ‘02 in October 2000 to score three touchdowns in a game. Davis averaged 8.0 yards per in his 22 carries.

Yale junior running back Mike McLeod [New Britain, Conn.] continued to make his case for the Walter Payton Award, tearing through the stingy Cornell rushing defense for 151 yards and three touchdowns in 31 carries in a 51-12 victory. McLeod, who scored a school-record 20 touchdowns as a sophomore, has already breached the end zone seven times this season and averages more than 150 rushing yards per game.

DEFENSIVE Harvard senior defensive back Steven Williams [San Antonio, Texas] came up big with a game on the line by intercepting two fourth-quarter passes in a 24-17 win over Brown Saturday night. Williams’ first interception came on Harvard’s six-yard line to stop a Brown scoring bid and his second came with 2:11 remaining at Brown’s 44-yard line. He added two pass breakups and had three tackles in Harvard’s eighth straight victory over the Bears.

SPECIAL TEAMS Princeton junior punter Ryan Coyle [Princeton, N.J.] averaged 45.3 yards per punt in six attempts and booted a career-long 69-yard kick in the first quarter. Replacing four-time All-Ivy punter Colin McDonough, Coyle is averaging a League-best 43.0 yards a punt in 2007.

ROOKIE Dartmouth freshman quarterback/wide receiver Tim McManus [St. Paul, Minn.] was a buzzsaw for the Big Green during the 52-31 loss to in-state rival New Hampshire. McManus showed his versatility completing a pass for seven yards, rushing four times for 45 yards and catching two passes for 32 yards. He lined up under center several times against the Wildcats.

He also rushed for 45 yards and managed an offense that didn't commit a single turnover against the No. 1 ranked defense in the nation in a 20-14 win at Lafayette.

Yale senior kicker Alan Kimball [Olathe, Kan.] had a busy day in the Bulldogs’ Ivy opening 51-12 win over Cornell. He not only kicked the ball through the uprights all nine times he tried [three field goals, six extra points], but also averaged 58 yards per kickoff in 10 tries.

Columbia junior spur Clark Koury [Dublin, Ohio] had the first two interceptions of his career — one led to a field goal and another to a touchdown — in the Lions’ 31-7 win over Marist. Koury, who returned the two pickoffs for 23 yards, had two tackles for a loss and nine total stops.

Penn senior wide receiver Braden Lepisto [Agoura Hills, Calif.] set a career high with 11 receptions and had 123 receiving yards. Harvard senior wide receiver Corey Mazza [Thousand Oaks, Calif.] caught nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in a 24-17 win over Brown Saturday night. His second straight 100-yard day started early with a 21-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and a 41-yard reception that set up the go-ahead touchdown before halftime.

Princeton senior linebacker Jon Stem [Greensburg, Pa.] recorded five tackles, including a drive-ending sack, and tipped a pass at the line of scrimmage that was intercepted by teammate Tom Methvin. Stem led a defense that limited Lafayette to only two third-down conversions.

Cornell sophomore wide receiver Bryan Walters [Bothell, Wash.] caught four passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns and nearly set a school record for kick return yardage in a game en route to 276 all-purpose yards in the Big Red’s loss to Yale.
