Knight International Journalism Award Winners NamedFrom the release: The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has named Egyptian blogger Wael Abbas and Burmese investigative reporter May Thingyan Hein as the 2007 Knight International Journalism Award winners. They will be honored along with Founders Award recipient Tom Brokaw at the 10th annual ICFJ Awards Dinner at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC, on November 13. The dinner also will feature Keynote Speaker Bob Woodruff and Master of Ceremonies George Stephanopoulos. Monday, Aug 13
Post Takes Home APME HonorsThe Washington Post recently took home the Associated Press Managing Editors Award for Public Service for their series on Walter Reed Hospital. It also took top honors in the online division for its package on "Being a Black Man." Post Gets Honored by NABJFrom here: Washington Post staff members won four first-place awards in the annual competition held by the National Association of Black Journalists. A fifth first-place award went to the staff of washingtonpost.com. The staff of The Post was awarded the prize for newspaper features for the "Being a Black Man" series, which was published last year. The staff of washingtonpost.com received the prize in the new media category for best online news project in connection with its presentation of the series. Three staff writers won individual awards. Keith L. Alexander won in business reporting for "A Chance to Get Into the Room." It told of the experiences of two black entrepreneurs and was part of the "Being a Black Man" series. Wil Haygood shared a first-place award in the magazine features category for a story in The Washington Post Magazine about helping to raise his nephew, headlined "Showing the Way." DeNeen L. Brown won first place in the magazine investigative category for a story in the Post magazine that was headlined "To Catch a Killer" and described the quest of a woman to find her son's killer. Rapp to Manage Paul Miller Washington FellowshipsFrom the release: Former CQ editor David Rapp will manage the National Press Foundation's venerated Paul Miller Washington Reporting Fellowships for 2007-2008, NPF has announced. "We are thrilled that David will bring his proven expertise, knowledge of Washington and commitment to the highest quality journalism to this unique program," said NPF president Bob Meyers. The Paul Miller Fellowship provides 20 journalists annually with an intensive introduction to Washington leaders, issues, and agencies. The program takes place one day a month for 10 months, starting in September. There is no cost to accepted journalists. Rapp is a principal of Experience Omnimedia LLC, which develops media properties in underserved markets. It is in the midst of developing a print magazine and online service for the consumer travel sector. For the previous 10 years, David was the editor and senior vice president of Congressional Quarterly Inc., where he ran a newsroom of 125 reporters, editors, researchers and database managers. He was responsible for all print and online publications, including the CQ Weekly, CQ Today, the CQ.com legislative tracking service, a suite of specialty newsletters, and the biennial reference work on Congress, Politics in America. In 2003, David initiated and led the reorganization of CQ's discrete print and online operations into a single, integrated newsroom, where reporters and editors who cover Congress file stories in all platforms and news cycles. He has been a member of the NPF board since 2005.
