BOSTON -- Ed Montague has been named crew chief for the six-man unit that will umpire the World Series.

Montague, who has been a Major League umpire for 32 years, will be behind the plate calling balls and strikes when the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox begin the 103rd Fall Classic on Wednesday night.

Rounding out the crew are Laz Diaz, Ted Barrett, Chuck Meriwether, Mike Everitt and Mike Reilly. Diaz and Everitt have been Major League umpires for nine years, Barrett 11, Meriwether 16 and Reilly 31. Reilly, like Montague, is a regular-season crew chief.

This will be Montague's sixth World Series assignment, the most recent in 2004. It is his 21st postseason assignment. Reilly will be on the field for his fourth World Series and his 18th playoff series, and Meriwether will work his second Fall Classic and his 11th postseason series.

This is the first World Series for Barrett (eighth postseason series), Diaz (fourth postseason series) and Everitt (eighth postseason series).

All six World Series umpires were assigned to 2007 Division Series games.
