Tameside is situated between Manchester and the Peak District and gets its name because it is situated on the banks of the River Tame.
Lying seven miles east of Manchester, Tameside has a significant industrial heritage, which can be explored through the many museums and landmarks located throughout the borough.
There are plenty of attractions such as Hartshead Pike, Portland Basin, the Fairfield Moravian Settlement, which helps give an insight into the history of the borough. There are also plenty of ways to get back to nature including Daisy Nook Country Park, which offers a range of habitats to explore; woodlands, the canal, river and more than enough open countryside to spend an afternoon strolling around. Town centres come alive at the weekend with Stalybridge known locally as Stalyvegas due to its thriving bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
The Divisional Headquarters is Ashton Police Station which is situated on Manchester Road. The station is open 24 hours 7 days a week and has disabled access. Details on how to contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team can be found by clicking on your local area page.
