Seven Saudi Guantanamo detainees return to the Kingdom

Seven Saudi citizens who had been detained at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay were returned to the Kingdom today, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

 

Saudi authorities identified the seven detainees as Majed Abdullah Hussein Al-Harbi; Rashid Awad Khalaf Al-Balkheir Al-Ghamidi; Faisal Salih Bireikan Al-Nasser; Mohammed Abdullah Saqr Al-Alawi Al-Harbi; Nasser Mazeed Abdullah Al-Subei'ei; Abdullah Majeed Al-Jodi; and Majed Eidah Mohammed Al-Qurashi.

The detainees will be subject to the justice system of the Kingdom, the Interior Ministry said. In addition, the families of the seven have been notified, and efforts are underway to enable the detainees to meet with their families.

In a statement, Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz expressed appreciation to US authorities for their cooperation, and said that the Kingdom would continue its efforts to repatriate the remaining Saudi detainees.
